Girls Soccer Scrimmage

Rod Apfelbeck was out scooping up great pictures at the Girls Soccer scrimmage against Roger Bacon on Monday, August 18th.  No score reported, but, well, you can't have everything all the time.  This score-less report will just make you appreciate it oh-so-much more when real reports start coming in for the team.  Oh, how I envy the respect and admiration that will be showered on the individual who starts carrying the banner of Girls Soccer for the Round Up.
Thanks to Rod Apfelbeck for the great pictures.

Soccer Scrimmage Shots

We posted previously on the Boys Soccer 6-2 scrimmage win against Badin on Thursday, August 14th.  Refresh your memory HERE.  We now have pictures to share.
A lot is said of the small school with multi-sport athletes.  Sometimes things can get a little out of hand.  I don't think they are meant to be played together at the same time.  Although, we have to credit the quick thinking ref's for recognizing what was happening and being quick to give the three count for the pin that followed the picture below.
Thanks to Deb Varland for the great pictures.

Another Pair of Scrimmage Wins

Jen Hays always brings the good news.  Today is no exception.

The Wyoming Men's Varsity Soccer team had two scrimmages this week.   On Tuesday they played a pretty tough, definitely physical, game against Bellbrook High School.  Although Bellbrook gave the Cowboys a run for their money, the fellas pulled it out with a goal by Andrew Derge for a win of 1-0.

On Thursday they played at home against Badin High School.  What the Cowboys thought would be a challenging game, turned out to be a piece of cake for the guys.  (At least it seemed that way from the stands.  They may not agree.)  They played hard and they played well.  Badin lead off the first half with a goal.  Wyoming answered right back to finish off the half with goals by Miles Rajbhandari and Andy Renggli.  Ironically Badin started off the second half by scoring first as well.  This time the Cowboys answered back louder, with goals by Toby Varland, Ben Derge and two goals by Jay Klein.  Keepers Ethan Wayman and Marshall Hays kept Badin to only one goal a half.  Final was Wyoming 6 - Badin -2.

Way to go guys!

The Men's Soccer season opener is Saturday at Home against Walnut Hills.  JV plays at 5:00pm.  Varsity plays at 7:00pm.  What else do you have to do on a Saturday night??? Come on out and root on the guys!

RU:   Now I know you're all dyed-in-the-wool, true-blue super-fans and are ready to support a Cowboy team in the blink of a eye.  But let's say hypothetically that you had this hypothetical friend who was hypothetically a less-than-rabid fan.  Someone who hypothetically needed some convincing that coming out to watch the games would prove to be an exciting and worthwhile proposition.  Then hypothetically you should show this hypothetical friend the following very real Scott Springer and Dave Motz Cincinnati.com article about the teams prospects for the season.

Have your hypothetical friend read the article by clicking HERE

Thanks to Jen Hays for the great report and

Straight Sets of Superb Service

From AD Jan Wilking

Congratulations, thank you and happy coaching retirement to our head boys’ tennis coach, Ted Plattenburg.  Coach Plattenburg became the middle school tennis coach in 2006 and varsity head coach in 2010.  Some of Ted’s coaching highlights include:

2006-2009 the MS boys went undefeated

2009 the Varsity boys finished 2nd in state (losing to Columbus Academy) in state finals

Since 2009, the varsity boys have been ranked in the top-10 in the state polls (6 years running) from #2 to # 9.

In 4 out of the last six years, we have qualified 7 individual players to state tourney including 2 #3 place finishers

Wyoming is the only team to have taken the CHL tennis title from Indian Hill (2009 and 2014) since the beginning of the CHL in 1985.

Again, thanks Coach for your dedication to the Wyoming tennis program!

Jackrabbits Nationwide

From Jackrabbit Coach Geoge White

It may seem like the offseason, but…read on:

The Cincinnati U19 and U16 boys teams excelled at the recent national championships, and for the first time ever, Wyoming had two players on the team.

Rising junior Joe White played on the U19 team, which finished second in the national tournament this weekend.  The 9th seeded Cincinnati team, Flying Pig, went undefeated in pool play on Saturday, and then on Sunday in the championship bracket knocked off 8th seeded Pittsburg, second seeded Seattle, and 7th seeded Boston before falling to North Carolina in the final.  This is the highest finish ever for a Cincinnati boys team, a select team made up of players from multiple schools in the area.  Joe caught goals in three of the four games in the championship bracket, and had a key interception to fuel the win over Boston in the semis.

Rising sophomore Arthur Cilley was on the boys U16 team, the Flying Piglets, which finished 6th in the U16 division of the national championships.

Arthur and Joe will be leaders of Wyoming’s 2015 team, the Jackrabbits.

This was quite an exciting day!
Thanks to Coach White for sharing the great news.  And stay tuned as Coach White travels to Montreal next month to play in the North American Grand Masters (40+) championships.
