Volleyball
Player of the year:Haley Stewart: The second-team all-state middle blocker/right-side hitter led the Cincinnati Hills League with 301 kills and added 157 digs. She was a first-team all-district selection and was named the CHL athlete of the year.

First team
Maddie Bahr: The libero was third in the CHL with 401 digs and a first-team all-district selection.

Mia Kraft: The honorable mention all-state setter led the CHL with 785 assists with a robust 10.47 per-game average and added 239 digs. Kraft was also a first-team all-district selection.

Lydia Kurtz: The second-team all-district outside hitter was 12th in the CHL with 119 kills and added 109 digs despite missing the first eight matches.

Reagan Raymer: The second-team all-district right-side/outside hitter was fourth in the CHL with 223 kills and ninth in the league with 271 digs.

Tri-County Press All Stars
Haley Stewart: The 6-foot-2 middle blocker/right-side hitter was a CHL leader with 301 kills, 100 blocks and 157 digs. Stewart made CHL first team for league champion Cowboys.

Maddie Bahr: Libero made CHL first team and had 401 digs for the CHL champs.

Mia Kraft: The Cowboys setter was CHL first team. She had 70 kills, 785 assists and 239 digs for the league champions.

Football
OL: Eric Perry: The senior was second-team all-district.

LB: Tucker Berger: The senior was second-team all-district. He had 127 tackles in the regular season.

DB: Mason Rogers: The senior was special mention all-state and first-team all-district. He had 30 solo tackles, 11 assisted tackles, seven tackles for loss, two interceptions and three pass breakups in the regular season.

Tri-County Press All Stars
Tucker Berger: Linebacker was second in the Cincinnati Hills League in tackles with 127 in the regular season. Berger added 15 more tackles in the Cowboys’ playoff game. He also had a sack and two fumble recoveries and was first-team All-Cincinnati Hills League.

Jake Edmonds: Edmonds was sixth in the CHL in receiving yard with 28 catches for 378 yards and nine touchdowns. He also ran for 92 yards and a score, had 23 defensive tackles and averaged 11.8 yards on punt returns and 15 yards on kickoff returns. Edmonds was first-team All-CHL.

Eric Perry: The 6-foot-3 265 pound two-way lineman was first-team All-CHL, leading the offensive line and adding a pair of tackles on defense.

Mason Rogers: The receiver/defensive back was first-team All-CHL. He had 13 receptions for 251 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 222 yards and two scores. Defensively, he had 46 tackles and two interceptions. He also averaged 26.6 yards on kickoff returns.

Justin Shields: Shields was the second-leading rusher in the CHL with 1,343 yards and 20 touchdowns. Out of the backfield he had eight catches for 139 yards and a score. Shields made CHL first team.

First Team
Whitley Elsass: The junior came in 25th at the regional meet with a time of 19:57.5.

Honorable Mention
Riley Bahr, Danielle McKee, Lily Parker

Tri-County Press All Stars
Whitley Elsass: Elsass was the CHL Runner of the Year and had the second best time in the league with a 19:46.70 at the CHL meet. Wyoming was sixth at the Division II regional meet at Troy with Elsass finishing 25th in 19:57.5.

Danielle McKee: McKee was CHL first team and had the third best time in the league with a 20:11.50 at the CHL meet. McKee finished 39th at the Division II regional meet in 20:31.3.

First Team
Cullen O'Brien: The senior placed 44th at the regional meet with a time of 17:08.6.

Tri-County Press All Stars
Cullen O’Brien: O’Brien had the fourth best time in the league with a 16:45.40 at the CHL Championship to make CHL first team. O’Brien was 44th at the Division II regional meet at Troy in 17:08.6.

Lucy Walton: Qualified for the Division II district tournament at PipeStone.

Second Team
Kayla Wilson: Qualified for the Division II district tournament at PipeStone.

Elizabeth Fischer: Qualified for the Division II district tournament at PipeStone.

Sydney Wellman: Qualified for the Division II district tournament at PipeStone.

Cooper Hausfeld: Hausfeld had the top average in the CHL with a 39.43 to be named CHL Golfer of the Year and first team.

Sam Marty: Marty had the second-best average in the CHL at 39.79 for the league champion Cowboys.

Kayla Hampton: was second-team all-state and first-team all-CHL. She had 12 goals and three assists.

Second Team
Casey Jervier: was first-team all-CHL with 16 goals and two assists.

Tri-County Press All Stars
Kayla Hampton: Hampton was seventh in the CHL in scoring with 12 goals and three assists to make CHL first team.

Casey Jervier: Midfielder was Wyoming’s top scorer with 16 goals and two assists. Jervier made CHL first team.


Boys Soccer
First Team
Andrew Derge: A second team all-Ohio selection and first team all-CHL pick. He led the CHL with 23 goals.
Jay Klein: Named second team all-Ohio and first team all-CHL alongside Derge. Klein led the CHL in points (69) by scoring 21 goals with 27 assists; the latter ranked second in the city.

Second Team
Ethan Wayman: The goalkeeper had 9.5 shutouts and was selected first team all-CHL.

Tri-County Press All Stars
Andrew Derge: Forward/midfielder was second in the CHL in scoring with 52 points on 23 goals and six assists. Derge was CHL first team.

Jay Klein: Forward/midfielder was the top scorer in the CHL with 21 goals and 27 assists to make CHL first team.

Tristan Kovach: Midfielder was ninth in the CHL in scoring with 11 goals and nine assists to make CHL first team.


Ethan Wayman: Goalkeeper had 77 saves and nine shutouts for the Cowboys to make CHL first team.

We Were Treated to Great Seasons, And It's Not Over Yet

Like the best Halloween dark chocolate, AD Jan Wilking has some bittersweet news to share.

Congratulations to our girls’ soccer and girls’ volleyball teams who finished their seasons this past week at District Runner-Ups.  Both programs had tremendous seasons and should be very proud to once again be in the top 32 programs in the state of Ohio.

Congratulations to our girls’ cross country team who finished 6th in regionals on Saturday in Troy.

She also has the some make-your-teeth-hurt super-sweet news to share.

Boys’ soccer continues their quest for a trip to the state finals, winning on Saturday night 4-0 over Kenton Ridge.  We play on Wednesday night at 7pm at Wright State University in the regional semi final game (top 16 teams in the state) vs. Columbus Bishop Hartley.  All tickets are $7.

Football earned a third consecutive trip the state playoffs.  We take on Indian Hill on SATURDAY night at 7pm at Indian Hill.  Tickets will go on sale at school in the athletic office on Wednesday at lunch.  All tickets are $8.  GET YOUR TICKETS EARLY as we will only be given a portion of the total tickets available.  No passes are accepted for this state playoff game.  Parking will be an issue at the game on Saturday so plan to arrive early to Indian Hill.  Additional parking will be available on Drake Road and at Indian Hill Elementary School.  Carpooling is encouraged.  There will be a student spirit bus leaving Wyoming at 5:45pm on Saturday.  Tickets for the bus are $2 and MUST BE BOUGHT IN ADVANCE at lunch starting Wednesday.  Follow @WyomingSports on Twitter for more ticket updates and information as it becomes available.

Breaking the Tape

Saturday, October 17th, the Cross Country teams competed in the CHL Championships at the Kings Island Golf Course in Mason.

A large number of our runners posted season-best and career-best times last Saturday in the JV and Varsity races at the Bruin Golf Course. Among the highlights were three of our girls moving up or entering the WHS all-time top twenty rankings! Junior Whitley Elsass won the girls race, posting a 19:46. Senior Danielle McKee followed close behind in 20:11, and freshman Riley Bahr broke into our record book with her 20:35. In the boys race, senior Cullen O'Brien ran a 16:45, putting him in our top 10 and earning first-team all-CHL honors. Congratulations on these great performances and to everyone who made Saturday--and the entire season--so special!

The Varsity teams then competed at the Regional Championships in Troy in Saturday, October 31st where the Girls team finished in 6th place.

The Middle School teams also competed at the CHL Championships where both the Girls and Boys teams finished 2nd.

Plan Your Week

Several Wyoming teams are still alive in post season play.  Here is update of events this week:

Girls Soccer:  Monday 7pm at Kings High School vs. McNick.  Sectional finals (top 64 teams in Ohio).  All tickets $6.  Winner plays on Thursday (10/29) at 7pm at Dayton Wayne High School for District Finals.

Boys Soccer:  Tuesday 7pm at Milford High School vs. McNick.  Sectional final.  All tickets $6.  Winner plays.  Winner plays Saturday (10/31) site and time TBA.

Girls Volleyball:  Saturday 6pm at Trent Arena (Kettering Fairmont High School) in District Finals (top 32 teams in Ohio) vs. the winner of Shawnee/Tipp City.

Cross Country:  Saturday Girls at 11:45 and Boys at 2:15 at Troy, OH Hobart Arena.  Wyoming girls won the District race on Saturday lead by Whitley Elsass and followed by Danielle McKee, Riley Bahr, Lily Parker and Emily Wood.  Cullen O’Brien qualified for regionals on the boys side.

Football:  We host Deer Park on Friday night at 7pm.  It is senior parent night for all our fall student athletes and band members.  A victory on Friday would give the Cowboys a good chance to earn a second consecutive playoff berth.  We would travel to another area high school for a first round game on Saturday, November 7th at 7pm.  Playoff information will be available next week.

Perfection

Saturday, October 3rd, the Cross Country team ran at Indian Riffle Park in Kettering.

The girls finished 1st posting a perfect score of 15. Whitley Elsass won the race in a career best time of 20:12. She was followed by Danielle McKee, Lily Parker, Terra Forsythe, and Riley Bahr in places 2-5.

The boys earned 2nd place with their best performance so far this season. Cullen O'Brien led the way with a season-best 17:20 for 4th place overall.  Jack Komrska, Grant Mellott, Joe White, Jacob Olausen, Jack Mariani, and Charlie Donnelly all posted personal-best times in the varsity race.

Just Try to Keep Up

The Girls Cross Country team routed all comers at the George Rogers Clark Invitational in Sprigfield, Ohio on Saturday, September 26th.  Whitley Elsass finished fifth followed close behind by Danielle McKee.  Lily Parker finished in 12th and Riley Bahr came in 14th and Terra Forsythe stepped over in 24th.  The ended with 61 points well ahead of second place Dublin Scioto with 104 points.

The Boys team finished in third by a single point over Bellefontaine.  Cullen O'Brien led the way for the Cowboys with an 8th place finish.  Jonah Englehardt came in 28th and Grant Mellot came in 34th followed right behind by Matt Lautner in 35th with Jack Kormska finishing in 42nd.

Chewing Up the Competition in Eaton

Coach Glendenning always has something great to say about his Cross Country teams.  How could he not?  Here he gives us the news from their meet in Eaton on Saturday, September 19th.

The girls team won the DII race led by Whitley Elsass in 4th and Danielle McKee in 6th.  Riley Bahr (11th) and Lily Parker (14th) also had top 20 finishes and Terra Forsythe capped our scoring.  She, along with Isabella Renggli in 6th, were critical in beating runner-up Monroe's 5th runner to assure our victory.

The boys showed a strong improvement in finishing 4th.  They lowered their average time by over 20 seconds and Cullen O'Brien had his best race of the year for 6th overall.

Word is that there are some pictures out there somewhere finishing up their cool down and should be back in the team tent soon ready to be shared.  Stay tuned.

Cross Country To The Max

Do you miss the Max?  Here's your chance to see Max Hoffman ('15) run once again.  He'll still be in blue, but he's representing Xavier University at the Queen City Invitational in Mason Ohio on Saturday,  September 5th.  The Cowboys Cross Country team will be running at the event also, so it'll be a great chance to cheer for the past and present superstars all together.

The Condensed Version

Always diligent, AD Jan Wilking provided us with a brief summary of the Fall season.

The Fall athletic season was one of championships!  Wyoming captured Cincinnati Hills League (CHL) Championships in volleyball, boys’ and girls’ cross country, football and for the first time since 1985 – boys’ soccer. Wyoming currently leads in the CHL All Sport Trophy standings.

Our volleyball team earned the #1 seed in the OHSAA state tournament and finished the season 24-2 as District Runner-Ups.  Alexis Tyree was named CHL Player of the Year and Julie Plitt was named CHL Coach of the Year.  Alexis Tyree and Madi Maisel were both named all state.

Our cross country teams won both the boys’ and girls’ CHL and Southwest District Championships.  Our boys’ team qualified for the state finals, finishing 8th.   Travis Glendenning was named CHL Coach of the Year. Ben Stites was named Runner of the Year in the CHL.

Boys’ soccer earned the #1 overall seed in the tournament and finished as District Champions and regional semifinalists.  Steve Thomas was named CHL Coach of the Year.

Girls’ soccer had an outstanding season finishing in the top 16 in the state as District Champions and regional semifinalists.  Coach Lauren Gruber was named CHL and Southwest District Coach of the Year.  Sophomore Kayla Hampton was CHL Co-Player of the Year.

Boys’ Golf won the CHL Tournament Championship.  Both the boys’ and the girls’ team qualified for the District Finals.  Girls were led by all Southwest District player senior Sam Pease. 

Girls Tennis finished 2nd the CHL and showed improvement over the season.

Football stands at 9-1 and Friday night hosts a first round playoff game.  Tickets are on sale now at school!

Fall Awards Night is Wednesday, November 19th at 7pm.

I'm sure there are many more awards and honors to come for our Cowboys.  We'll try to post a more complete list after Awards Night.

A Great Eighth at State

Saturday, November 1st, The Boys Cross Country Team ran at the State Meet at National Trail Raceway.  The team finished in 8th place out of 16 teams.  Here's how each Cowboy finished:

On To State

The Cowboy Cross County team qualified to State at the Troy Regionals.  This will be the third team trip in four years.  Ben Stites finished in 4th and Max Hoffman was close behind, finishing 14th. The girls tied their highest team Regional finish since 2001.  The State meet is Saturday, November 1st  in Columbus at 11:45.  Check out the OHSAA site for more details about the State meet HERE.

District Champs

Our runners built off last week's impressive performances at CHL for the most successful day at the District Championships in school history.  The boys and girls swept both the individual and team titles at Voice of America Park in West Chester.

In the girls race, our lead pack of Katie Spray, Terra Forsythe, and Whitley Elsass worked together and patiently moved up to spots 2-4 in the second mile.  Katie closed a large gap on the leader and then pulled away in the final 400 for the victory.  Her time of 19:52 moves up to 5th in the WHS record book and was her first sub-20 5k.  Terra and Whitley also posted season-best times to finish 3rd and 4th.  Danielle McKee came in 8th and Lily Parker, with a season best by 30 seconds, 12th as both earned places on the podium.  Katherine Irvine ran her best time as well, and was accompanied across the finish line by Emily Wood in a near tie .  The girls scored 28 points for a 46 point win over runners-up Indian Hill.

Ben Stites improved his own school record with the only sub-16 5k race in Cowboys history.  Ben won his second SW District championship while working with fellow senior Max Hoffman to break away from the field in the first half of the race.  Max's 16:11 (the #2 time ever for a Wyoming runner!) earned him 2nd place.  Evan Cramer, Tanner Anthony, and Cullen O'Brien all ran season-best times, finishing in places 5,6, and 9.  Evan moved into the WHS Top 20 as he improved to 17:02.  The boys posted only 23 points in their win.
