Classic Pot and Kettle

I was hoping to quietly turn off the lights behind me as I crept out of the room, but when the recent past Booster President, Citizen of the Year, Frannie Rogers makes a request you oblige.  However, I noticed that if you ignore the specifics of her text below, the spirit of it could apply to a lot of other people out there.  There are myriad past and present team moms, team photographers and reporters, underpaid coaches, overworked school staff, concession volunteers, and Booster Board members that fit this bill just as well and likely even more so than I.  So if you're in the above group or some other type of unlisted, unnoticed, unthanked, 20 percent-er then consider this just as much about you and read this with a knowing smirk on your face and a warm sense of appreciation in your heart.

From Frannie Rogers:

Bon Voyage Jason! Thank you Jason Miller for everything you did to make the Wyoming Round Up Blog a huge success. For the past four years you have worked diligently to keep us abreast of all the in's and out's plus comings and goings of Wyoming Athletics and community events. Jason started his tireless mission of blog entries in September 2012 and did his final post in June 2016. He will forever be remembered for his professionalism, time, effort, energy and most importantly his humorous postings in which he engaged and entertained his audience. Many Wyoming sporting events were highlighted throughout his tenure as editor and chief of the blog. His determination and effective communication kept us all up to speed on the latest results, highlights and happenings around town. His true commitment for the love of the game was evident and he and his blog will be missed. Thank you Jason for your four years of service and dedication to Wyoming Round Up. Hats off, You will be missed!

Farewell

Since 2009, the Booster's Round Up blog has been bringing you the great news about our Wyoming athletes.  This role will now be will be covered by the new Athletics website (coming soon).

Just because I won't be around to cajole you into helping the cause, doesn't mean there isn't still a need for your help.  The Booster's will still need you to add your time and talents to help improve the athletic experience for our Cowboys, and the new website will still need content.

I don't think I can list any names in a thank you as I'm sure I'd miss a few and I don't want to make any regular contributor feel forgotten.

Therefore thanks to all who've read and especially to all who've contributed.

Changing of the Guard

Monday, May 9th, the gavel of the Athletic Booster presidency passed from Frannie Rogers to Chip Washienko.  Frannie, not surprisingly a Wyoming Citizen of the Year, moved the Boosters forward in many ways, some you can see and even more that you can't.  Whether you knew it or not, if you or someone you love was involved in Wyoming Athletics at any level recently, Frannie was an integral part of that experience.   She leaves the Board in a good place and in good hands with Chip.

Ready to give back in some small way to Wyoming Athletics after all the benefits your athletes have reaped over the years?  There is an unfilled seat on the Board for next year.

Send your contact info to the Round Up at wyoroundup@gmail.com

No, This Isn't Another Swimming Post

We've had two swimming posts in a row with another one coming up next.  If we work together we can break the power of the aquatic cartel.  Here's how.

The Round Up is less like an investigative journalism organization and more like a radio call-in show.  We don't chase stories, but rely on you to fill our posts.  Sure, it would be nice if the Round Up did all the work and if I wasn't so legendarily lazy, but I've noticed that being more pro-active isn't one of my New Year's Resolutions.  Dang it.  Maybe next year.  In the meantime, if you want to see your favorite teams getting more coverage (or any at all in some cases) it's up to you to provide the content.  It's easy.  We're not asking for dissertations or in-depth analysis of each and every play, but a couple sentences every once and while to let us know how your team did at a game or in general would be great.  If your modesty has been preventing you, let us know and we can keep you anonymous or maybe even give you a really cool pen name.  We're also not asking for Sports Illustrated quality photos.  Have a decent group selfie team shot?  Send it in so we can all witness the magnificence that is your team.

A Seat at the Table

The holiday's and all the delicious meals that come with them are almost here.  Have you noticed that the best big family dinners are a group effort?  There are the cousins who work behind the scenes to rearrange the furniture so the kids' table will fit in the dining room.  You can always count on Aunt Eunice to bring her sweet potatoes.  (Sure they're pretty gross, but it wouldn't be same without them though, would it?)  Grandma's turkey.  Yeah, nothing else needs to be said there.  Besides the gourmet biscuits from scratch, green bean casserole and the pies, oh the pies, every meal also needs someone to bring the canned corn, the strangely cylindrical cranberry sauce, the pop and some snacks.  When the last chair has been pushed away from the table, there are the uncles who clear the table and the squad of aunts that blast through the dishes.  And then there's Uncle Joe who never fails to come empty handed but also never leaves hungry as he doesn't expend any energy helping to set-up for the meal or clean up afterwards.  We still love Uncle Joe, he's family. but don't you get the feeling he's the guy who cuts in line at the bakery, who is "creative" with his taxes, the guy who texts and drives, and the one who sits in the fire lane at the Y instead of parking in a space less than 200 feet away when picking up his kids?

The Athletic Booster's Round Up uses the same collaborative approach.  We need everyone to pitch in and bring something to the table.  Don't want the spotlight?  We can keep you anonymous.  Not a gourmet wordsmith; are your pictures half-baked?  We need the canned corn and pop in addition to the main attractions, and sometimes less-than-mediocre sweet potatoes are better than no sweet potatoes at all.

The  Athletic Booster Board also needs a strong collaborative effort.  There are still a few positions that need to be filled for the current year and the next.

Don't be an Uncle Joe.  Send your contributions or questions to wyoroundup@gmail.com
