7th Grade Team

Report from student-athlete Meghan Lyons:

Wyoming girls finished the regular season with with a big win over Deer Park (39-2) on Monday, February 8. Scorers were Meredith Bornholdt (13), Meghan Lyons (8), Natalie Strom (6), Liana Morgal (4), Mia Hagenauer (2), Hailey Martin (2), Irene Nicholson (2), and Autumn McMichael (2). Autumn McMichael had an amazing jump shot off the dribble beating Deer Park's 2/3 defense for the final points of the game. Way to go Autumn!!

To start off the CHL tournament, the Cowboys played Madeira on Tuesday, February 9. Wyoming beat Madeira 27-23. It was a close game and very aggressive. Scorers were Meredith Bornholdt (8), Mia Hagenauer (7), Meghan Lyons (6), Natalie Strom (4) and Irene Nicholson (2).

The championship game was held on Thursday, February 11 where the Cowboys squared off with Taylor. It was a tight game in the first quarter, but then our teamwork blossomed, along with our excellent rebounding and we pulled out the win with a final score of 31-11. Each and every team member participated in the win and we are very proud of ourselves. Scorers were Mia Hagenauer (8), Meghan Lyons (6), Meredith Bornholdt (4), Brianna Lowry (4), Natalie Strom (3), Maggie Fitzpatric (2), Peggy Moore (2) and Julia Hitt (2).

We won the First Place CHL Trophy!!

The trophy is ours and we can't wait to see what's in store for next year's season. Go Wyoming!!

We want to thank our team photographer, Mrs. Strom (Natalie's Mom), for taking all the pictures during our games. We had fun seeing our pictures on Wyoming RoundUp!

We want to thank Coach Kunkel (7th Grade Coach) and Coach Whipp (8th Grade Coach) for leading us through this season with a lot of hardwork and positive words of encouragement.

Girls Basketball

7th Grade

Report from student-athlete Brianna Lowry:

The 7th grade girls suffered a loss on Monday against Finneytown. They tried really hard as they only lost by 4 points. On Wednesday the girls won against Reading as the bench was very lively and loud! 7th grade girls will face Deer Park, away, on Monday February 8th! Then they will go to the tournament playing Madeira on Tuesday and we will have to wait and see what happens to find who they play on Thursday. GO COWBOYS!

Varsity

Wednesday, January 27th, the Varsity Girls Basketball team fell 38-43 to Madeira.  Check out some game stats HERE.

Saturday, January 30th, the team served up the Finneytown Wildcats 61-17 in honor of the reunion of the Wyoming '95-'96 DIII Girls State Basketball Champions.  Check out some game stats HERE

And the post season brackets are out.  The #2 seed girls have a first round bye and will face the winner of #6 New Richmond and #8 Norwood on Thursday, February 18th at 6:00.

Junior Varsity
Arch Cunningham was also on hand to get a few pictures of the JV team in action on Wednesday, January 27th against Madeira.  I don't have any results or stats.  Of course, you know the postal service.  I'm sure the reports from the team have just been getting lost in the mail this season.  The Postmaster General Megan Brennen can expect to receive a sternly worded letter. (Well, she can expect it, but if the delivery of the JV reports is any indicator, she may not actually receive it after all).  If you or someone you love is on the JV team and you're ready to stand up to the Fed's and take matters into your own hands but not quite ready to take over a wildlife refuge in Oregon, then show them you mean business and send you reports via email to wyoroundup@gmail.com

7th Grade Middle School
Report from student athlete, Liana Morgal:

This week the seventh grade team brought in one loss and a gratifying win. The Monday home game gave the team their second loss of the season against Mariemont. On Wednesday the Cowboys brought home another win against Madeira. The next game is on Monday, February 1st at Finneytown. The team has had a great season so far and are working towards the championship, one game at a time.

Girls Basketball

Varsity

Congratulations to senior point guard Ashli O'Neal for scoring her 1,000 career point this past Saturday (January 23rd) at Mariemont!!! She scored 19 points and hit the milestone on a 4th quarter layup to a standing ovation from the Mariemont crowd and Cowboy fans in attendance.

O'Neal has reached the milestone in less than three seasons, having missed all of last year with an ACL injury. She currently leads the CHL in scoring averaging 24 points a game.

The Cowboys are 14-3 on the year and ranked #3 in the city in DII. Come out and support the girls this Wednesday at home against league rival Madeira as they seek to avenge a December loss at the buzzer!

7th Grade

Report from student-athlete, Natalie Strom:

Thursday was our second game against Taylor. Just like we wanted our revenge on Indian Hill, Taylor wanted to beat us really bad. Thankfully, the Wyoming Cowboys beat the Yellow Jackets, leading the score in all four quarters. After a hectic week of days off and snow, we are ready to take on Mariemont and Madeira in our next games.

Middle School - 7th Grade

Report from student-athlete, Meredith Bornholdt:

WMS 7th grade girls basketball team “killed the hill” on January 11th. Indian Hill was the only team that had beat us. Our first game in November was against Indian Hill, and they killed us. The second time we played them it was the other way around {we killed them}. We had better defense, we played better as a team and we ran the plays correctly. Julia Hitt was our lead scorer with eight points, that included two amazing three pointers. Indian Hill tried as hard as they could to stop us, but they couldn’t - we were a brick wall. Our team is one of the best teams in the league.  We wouldn’t be playing as well without our amazing coaches, Mr.Whipp and Mr.Kunkel. They have taught us so much in these two months.  We hope to win the CHL championship and we hope you will be there to support us. Go Cowboys!

Middle School

Report from student-athlete, Peggy Moore:

A new year. The end of a round of the CHL. With the Deer Park Game announcing the end of the first round of CHLs, the 7th grade basketball team takes no time to celebrate. A winning week with Bornholdt being the Rebound Queen and Lyons owning the ball. Despite having troubles with Reading in the first half, the 7th grade girls took a valuable lesson to play like we do in the second half. After that pep talk, we scored 20 points. Deer Park was, well, exactly that, a walk in the park. A successful start to a season underlined by their only defeat:  Indian Hill.

Wednesday, January 6 (at Wyoming)

I'm not going to make any inflammatory remarks about how the 7th Grade Middle School Girls Basketball team's coverage is putting the Varsity and JV reports to shame.   I'm not even going to try to taunt the Varsity and JV teams into stepping up and submitting a report every once in a while to try to regain even a modicum of pride.  If I did, I would tell someone to submit reports to wyoroundup@gmail.com.

Middle School

Summary from 7th Grade Student-Athlete, Irene Nicholson:

On Monday (December 14) we played Finneytown. We came into the game knowing that Madeira beat them 52-0 and we beat Madeira. We thought that we could beat Finneytown easily, which proved not to be true. They had 5 girls on the team and we had 13. They obviously wanted to win. It was a little fierce out on the court. In the first half we were winning but we were not winning by a lot. We came into the second half recharged and played much better. Thankfully, we ended up winning the game.

Meghan Lyons led all scorers with 9 points, followed by Meredith Bornholdt (5) and Natalie Strom (4).  Wyoming also had great offensive production from key reserve players, Clarke Schmidt, Maggie Fitzpatric, and Brianna Lowry.
