Tuesday, July 9th was the final home meet for the Seadragons. Besides the domination of the Norwood 'Cudas, it was also Senior Night. Due to a mission trip, only two of the four Seniors who are wrapping up their Wyoming swimming career were present. Somehow the text from Katie Carmichael's presentation got leaked (pun intended) and is presented below.
Until the heat dies down, I will be hiding out at the TCBY in CVG.
David Weinrich
David started with the Seadragons when he was just 6 years
old! When he was little the coaches had to pry him off chairs to get him in the
water and Coach Valerie claims that it is not really that different now. Joking
aside, David has been a dedicated swimmer for a long time and he participated
on the swim team at both WMS and WHS. David says what he will miss most about
swimming is Valerie’s desperate attempts at getting them all in the water at
those early morning big kid practices. I think that we will all miss his big
handsome smile around the pool.
David is not just a swimmer… he is an avid and accomplished all-around
athlete. Specifically, he is also a high level soccer player having been a
member of the WHS team as well as the Cincinnati United Soccer Club. He hopes
to attend Manchester University in Indiana to major in Computer Science and
continue his soccer career. We wish you all the best David and thank you for
your dedication to the Seadragon Family for all these years! Way to go!
Brennan Burt
If you have spent any time at the pool chances are you know
Brennan…a cheerful hello and a smiling face is something you can always count
on from him. Brennan began swimming for
the Seadragons when he was 5 years old, this is his 14th season on the team. At
5, he could barely make it across the pool, 14 years later, he now coaches!
This season the 7/8s and last season the 6 & unders. Brennan also started
swimming for Powel Crosley Jr. YMCA when he was 6 and has grown into a National
YMCA swimmer with the Tigersharks. Brennan also swam for the Wyoming Middle
School and High School. During his high school swimming career, he earned both
District and State medals. He will NOT swim in college but hopes to play club
water polo.
Brennan also played soccer, football and ran cross country. He was elected to
Student Council his senior year and was inducted into the Cum Laude Society. He
was awarded many tremendous academic scholarships. He will study Mechanical
Engineering at THE Ohio State University in the fall on a four year merit
scholarship he earned for an essay on diversity and inclusion. Brennan is a bit
of a jokester and well known for his great big smile and happy go lucky
attitude which brings a smile to everyone around him! We feel so lucky to have
him as part of our team for all these years!
Maggie Barrett
Our lone female graduate, Maggie Barrett is representing for
the ladies! Since we only get to have one this year, we are so glad it is
her…she is an all around fantastic person and a spectacular role model. A true veteran, Maggie has been a
Seadragon for 8 years. She has been
swimming since she was 3 and Coach Kay's older sister taught her first swim
lessons! Maggie's love for the Seadragons has always been more about the team
and fun than the actual swimming! As a captain for the Wyoming High School Swim
team, she obviously likes to swim, but her real passion is running. Which is
maybe not surprising since according to her Mom, Valerie, Maggie is rarely ever
still even for a moment! She is happiest
when she is busiest, volunteering, working, studying, working out, etc. Maggie is hard working…holding several part
time jobs around town. Quick with a smile or a quiet kind word of encouragement…she
has many adoring fans among the littler kids.
So, it is no surprise that Maggie’s best experience with the Seadragons
swim club has been in her coaching role this year. An excellent student, Maggie is headed to
the University of South Carolina this fall to study Biological sciences. We
know you will make us proud there too!
Matthew Skidmore
Matthew began swimming for the Seadragons following his 6th
grade year. He must have liked it because he went on to swim for the Wyoming
Middle and High School throughout his academic career. He was a team captain
for the WHS swim team this year. Matthew is a well rounded sportsman
having also participated in football and
tennis through the years. He is an enthusiastic athlete that truly enjoys a
team atmosphere and the spirit and camaraderie that come with it. Matthew has
varied interests and is an active member of his youth group and loves to give
his time and effort to volunteer projects. Matthew is a great student and plans
to continue his studies next year at the University of Alabama in their
Engineering program. We wish you well in
your new endeavors and know you will make us proud as you go out into the
world!
