A Good Bounce

Bob Carter wraps up the regular season for the Girls Varsity Tennis team.

The Girls Varsity tennis team definitely ended the regular season on a high note. Last week, they beat Finneytown by a score of 5-0 (as you may recall), and then this week they blanked both Taylor and Deer Park 5 to 0. All three are CHL teams, and so these CHL victories lifted the Cowboy’s final record to 4-2 in the league.

This week also marked the last set of regular season tennis matches for the Varsity seniors. A big congratulations for a great season to seniors Kalyxa Roman, Rachel Carter, Marcella Domka, Paige Arenas, Sadie Darwish, and Sydney Barth.

And a tip of the tennis hat to the whole team – and a big THANK YOU to Coach Knickel!

Cowboys Over the Wildcats

Bob Carter keeps up the good work with for the Girls Varstity Tennis team.

Over the past week, the Girls Varsity Tennis team played two important CHL matches.

The first was versus Indian Hill. The players from Indian Hill may well be the best Division II tennis team in the city, and the Cowboys came up short in this match. However, the team bounced back smartly when they later played the Wildcats of Finneytown, and beat them by a score of 5-0.  The win versus Finneytown “evens up” the Cowboys’ CHL record to 2-2 (with two more CHL matches yet to be played).

The team gets a few well-deserved days off before two important matches next week: CHL rivals Taylor and Deer Park on Monday (9/28) and Weds (9/30), respectively. Both are home games, so come cheer on your Cowboys!

Killing It At the Coaches Classic

Bob Carter keeps the Girls Varsity Tennis team news and pictures bouncing our way.

The past Thursday and Saturday, the Girls Varsity Tennis team participated in the greater Cincinnati area Coaches Classic.

The year, the Cowboys played teams from CHCA, Cincinnati Country Day, Lakota East, and Wilmington. Three singles players and two doubles teams represented Wyoming. I’m still getting the final tally, but it was a very good outing for the Cowboys with all of the participants making it past the first set of matches on Thursday and playing in the deeper rounds on Saturday.

The tennis season is still going strong with lots of games coming up this week, including home matches against Kings and CHL rival Finneytown!

Tennis Thrills

Bob Carter keeps us close to the court for the Girls Varsity Tennis team.

The Girls Varsity Tennis team has seen a lot of action recently.

Over the past 10 days or so, the team has played in 4 very competitive and close matches.

On 9/1 the Cowboys defeated Fenwick (Dayton) 3-1 (with an incomplete game due to lightening/weather), and notched another win the following day versus Milford by a score of 3-2.  However, the team came up just a little short versus CHL rival Mariemont (2-3) and Walnut Hills (also by the score of 2-3).  As the close scores show, all of these matches were very close and exciting (especially the doubles play versus Walnut Hills).

There are a lot of big matches coming up: The team takes on CHL rivals Indian Hill on 9/18 (a re-scheduled date from an earlier rainout) and Finneytown on 9/22; as well as Kings on 9/21.  All of these matches are played at home (on the tennis courts right behind the high school), so come and cheer on your COWBOYS!

Wyoming Whips Winton Woods Warriors

Bob Carter has been hard at it reporting for the Girls Varsity Tennis team

Girls Varsity Tennis goes 1-1 so far this week.

Although the tennis team lost to Loveland on Monday (8/24), they bounced back with a strong win versus the Warriors of Winton Woods on Weds (8/26). The score was 4-1, and all of the matches were exciting with long rallies and well played points. Indeed, I think it took over 2-1/2 hours for all of the matches to finish.

This brings the Girls Varsity Tennis team’s record to 3-3 (1-0 CHL).

There is a lot of tennis yet to come: the team plays 4 matches over the next 6 days against St. Ursula B (away), Fenwick (away), Milford (away), and Mariemont (away – and one of our cross-town CHL rivals!).

After that, there is a BIG home match versus Indian Hill on 9/9. Indian Hill tennis is consistently one of the best in the city (for both boys and girls), so I’m sure the team would appreciate a vocal cheering section that day!

 The editorial staff agrees wholeheartedly with Bob about wanting a big cheering section ae the Cowboys face the Braves here at home.  To help motivate you, we'll see what we can do about throwing in free parking.

It Wasn't Cincinnati Country's Day

Man of all seasons, Bob Carter reported for the Girls Tennis team.

It was a very busy and productive week for the Girls Varsity Tennis team!

The team played three matches in three straight days, and ended the week with a 2-1 record. Their first match of the week was with Cincinnati Country Day on Weds (8/19). The Cowboys lost against CCD the prior two years in a row, so it was a BIG deal when the girls beat CCD by a score of 3-2 this season; with lots of very competitive matches. On Thursday, they locked rackets with Maderia, a cross town CHL rival, and came out on top 5-0!  Unfortunately, the team lost to an always-tough Seven Hills on Friday.

So far this season the varsity team is 2-2 (1-0 CHL), with no rainouts!

The team sees plenty of action next week with matches against Loveland (away) on Monday (8/24), Winton Woods (home) on Weds (8/26), and St. Ursula B (away) on Friday (8/28).

Tennis Takes Off

Bob Carter is back court-side bringing back the action from the Girls Tennis matches.

The school year hasn’t even started yet, but the Girls Varsity Tennis team is already in full swing (pun intended!)

Proudly representing the Cowboys this year are seniors: Paige Arenas, Sydney Barth, Rachel Carter, Sadie Darwish, Marcella Domka, and Kalyxa Roman; juniors: Annie Boster and Ellen Boster; sophomores: Lyndsay Sasson; and freshman: Anya Kirsch and Emily Mayer.

The first match of the season was on Friday, Aug 14. It was a beautiful day, but the Cowboys came up short against an always competitive team from Centerville.

There is plenty of action to come as the team plays three matches next week on Weds (8/19), Thurs (8/20), and Friday (8/21) against, respectively, Cincinnati Country Day, Madeira (CHL opponent!), and Seven Hills.  All of these matches are at home starting about 4pm, on the tennis courts behind the high school, so come cheer on your team!

Cowboys Conclude Convincingly at Coaches Classic

Coach Hoppenjans reported for the Girls JV Tennis team

The JV Girls Tennis Team finished the season with a spectacular showing at the Coaches Classic!  Every girl fought hard, and, as a result, Wyoming Cowboys were the Runner-up in the Tournament.  First Doubles, Marika Shoger and Sadie Darwish took first place in their division.  Second doubles, Emma Jacquamin and Isabella Getgey took second place in their division.  Sarah Sheerajin fought hard to be the winner in the back-draw for Third Singles.  Sydney Barth had 4 hard fought matches in Second Singles division and earned the team many points toward our final score.  Great finish to a great season!

Tennis Tenacity

The Girls JV tennis team is finishing the season strong with two very close, BIG wins over CHCA and Mariemont.  We beat both teams 3-2, and both were very close matches to the end.  Notably, Emma Jacquamin fought hard for a win in a third set tiebreaker against a very formidable opponent.  Also, Sarah Sheerajin and Isabella Getgey won in a third set tiebreaker as well.

Most importantly, this tennis team represents Wyoming with stellar sportsmanship, honesty, integrity, and respect toward one another and our guest teams.  They fight to the end every match and their hard work is paying off.  Great job team!
