The Other Seniors

After seeing the report of a couple of our WHS Seniors running the Flying Pig Half-Marathon, another report came on from some senior (citizen) runners.

Three of us (old - their words - not mine) Wyoming women rocked the Half Marathon..
In our age group (which by threat of bodily harm I was prohibited from printing), we placed:

Elizabeth Weis (8th)

Britta Schwartz (10th)

Kay Vongsakhamphouy (14th)

This is out of 761 runners!!

Kay also ran the 10K the day before and got 3rd in her age group.  

Okay, right, they aren't actually senior citizens, but it can be tough to work the tie-ins sometimes... and the report did come in kinda slow (like old people pushing their cart in front of you in the grocery store when you're in a big hurry kind of slow, not that I personally ever feel that way towards our respected, beloved elders, but I hear from others less patient than I that it can be a frustrating situation) which seems uncharacteristic for the ladies as they are apparently very fast.

Indomitable

If you or your progeny participate in Wyoming Sports or community events, chances are pretty good that Arch Cunningham has been there with his camera to capture the action.  Today, Arch was on the other end of the camera as he began his adventure to bike and hike the 1,444 mile Buckeye Trail to raise money and awareness of local cancer organization, Melanoma Know More.  Arch, a victor over melanoma cancer, began his journey starting from Eden Park with the help of the Half-Day Cafe Honor Guard.

You have to love truth in advertising.  It was called a Fun Run and if there were any doubts, the image above proves it.

The Wyoming School Foundation would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of our runners who participated in our 3rd annual 5K FUNRUN, held Saturday, March 15th.  We had a total of 561 participants--many of whom were Primary School students, running a 5K for the first time. 

It was a great morning to be a Wyoming resident--running a race, then heading over to the Civic Center for the Wyoming Youth Services sponsored Pancake breakfast.  

That is what you would call "delicious fun".

Glory Days

The Community Press & Recorder is working on an ongoing, multimodal project called “Glory Days,” featuring local high school sports history and memories.

Readers are encouraged to send photos, story ideas, favorite sports memories, anniversaries and other related items to cpglorydays@gmail.com.

Max Power

The Wyoming Living article about the 5K Fun Run was great.  We noticed that the overall 5k Winner was Sophomore Max Hoffman.  Max is off to a great year.  It's only April and he's already earned 4 season or personal best times this year (according to Milesplit). 
In an exciting "Look What's Around The Bend", the Female Overall 5K winner was 8th Grader Kamaria Walton. 
Successfully smashing all stereotypes about "those who can - do, and those who can't - teach", Wyoming Track Coach Greg Knickle took top honors in the Mens 60+ class. 
Not to be outdone, our own Wyoming Ultimate Frisbee Coach George White sailed in with the best time in the Mens 50-59 class.

 

Is there any sporting event where Wyoming doesn't try to cook outdoors?

The Half Day Cafe Cycling Tour, a grind of more than 330 miles over twenty days in the dark, wrapped up on September 30th without any serious allegations of doping.

Wyoming's Trevor Haley wins Great Ohio River Swim

Congratulations to twenty-seven year old Trevor Haley of Wyoming, who placed first of the 101 swimmers who completed the Great Ohio River Swim on July 24th with a time of 9:55.2, crushing the second place finisher by 43.5 seconds.
