Spring Sports Awards

SPRING SENIOR ATHLETES AND PARENTS:  

On behalf of the Wyoming Boosters Association, please plan to attend the annual Spring Senior Athlete Recognition Night on Wednesday, May 18th.  

This ceremony will take place in conjunction with the WHS Spring Sports Award night, held at the Pendery Center.  

We will begin the evening with our Spring Senior Athlete Recognition program, promptly at 7pm.  Each mother will be presented with a corsage, and parents will accompany their student-athlete to the front of the auditorium. 

This is a special event to commemorate the dedication that both you and your daughter, or son, have shown during their career at Wyoming High School.

Sports Physicals

The above information is for student athlete physicals in July.  Please plan to attend the event at Summit Woods on 7/23 if at all possible 

(500 E Business Way, Sharonville, Ohio 45241, 

Saturday, July 23rd, 8:00am-11:00am.  

If you are unable to attend the event on 7/23 you are welcome to attend any of the other locations.  

Make sure you have a 16-17 OHSAA physical form for your visit. 

We will still use Final Forms next year.

Forms will be updated for registration for 16-17 on June 1st. 

NEVER to be Outdone

While it was nice to see former Wyoming AD (now at Lakota West), Scott Kaufman named a SWODA AD of the Year, did you see how our own AD Jan Wilking went from 1 home game event (Boys Tennis) on Monday night to 4 home game events (adding Girls Lacrosse, Girls Softball, and Boys Baseball) due to opposing fields being too wet to play on?  And on top of all of that, she even stepped in for a few innings as first base coach for the Girls Softball team.  (They won the game, by the way, 14 to 7 over Norwood.  I'm not saying that the win was due to her being at first base... but I'm not not saying it either.)

A big thanks to Jan for putting in the work to give our athletes a chance to get back into action after the recent rain-outs.

Along with Scott Kaufman, local legend, Dave Dierker with Cincinnati Public Schools, was honored by the SWODA as he earned the NIAAA Distinguished Service Award in recognition of service, special accomplishments and contributions to athletic administration on the local, state, and national levels.

Wow! Wonderful Wilking and Wyoming Win

In a move that has High School English teacher Ms. Edmonds doing the Double Dorsey, the Wyoming Athletic Department has received the annual Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association "Award of Excelence".  Yes, I said "Excelence"

From the OIAAA site:

"The award, a collaboration between the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) and the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (OIAAA), recognizes schools that provide exemplary support and promotion of education-based athletic programming in their school and community."

"The focus of the award is to recognize on-going and consistent efforts on the part of Ohio interscholastic athletic departments that demonstrate best practice in the endorsement and promotion of education-based athletic programming.  Specifically, this award recognizes schools that demonstrate intentional efforts to shift the culture of school-based sport programs as an on-going process."

Divers Charlie Donnelly and Ilusha Gerimshuck qualified for the state finals to be held next week in Canton.

Our wrestling team finished 2nd in the CHL championships and will start the road to the state finals on Friday in Batavia.  Sophomore Yima Nyamore (138) and senior Justin Shields (160) were both crowned CHL champs in their respective weight classes.

Girls Basketball starts sectional play on Thursday at 6pm at Withrow vs. New Richmond.  Tickets are on sale in the athletic office for $6 presale and Wyoming receives a portion of the ticket revenue.  Tickets are also available at the door for $7.

Secure Your Place in History

Saturday night (2/13) we will play boys’ basketball vs. Indian Hill at 4:30/6/7:30pm.  This is a make up game from the non snow event a few weeks ago.  This game will in all likelihood be for the conference championship and therefore it will be a packed house.  Few items for everyone to know about tickets and passes….

Our gym seats 750 people.  Indian Hill has 225 tickets to presale starting on Monday.  We will have the balance of tickets to presale starting on Monday at lunch.  We will accept Booster passes at the door however, if and when we reach 750 people in the gym we will not allow any additional people to enter the gym due to fire code even with a Booster pass.

GET TO THE GYM EARLY IF YOU WANT A SEAT.  Taping blankets or seat savers during the 4:30 and/or 6pm game will NOT be permitted.

Tickets are $6 adults and $4 for students.

NCAA Information Night

January 21st at 7:30 in the Pendery, we will host an NCAA Information Night for all student athletes who are interested in learning more about the requirement of participating in college athletics.  If you have a son or daughter who is interested in playing at the collegiate level it is beneficial for him/her and a parent to attend this hour long information session.

An Opportunity to Serve

The home basketball games come fast and furious over the next few weeks--starting on 1/14 there are home games on 9 out of 10 days.  We need your help!  We still are in urgent need of volunteers. These games can be huge fundraisers.  Last Friday's boys' game?  Grossed $780 dollars.

Super Sized Saturday

Our boys’ soccer team plays in the regional finals on Saturday (November 7th) at 12pm at Monroe High School vs. Dayton Carroll.  The winner of this game advances to the state semi finals.  Tickets are $7.

Football travels to Indian Hill on Saturday night (November 7th) for a 7pm game in the first round of the state playoffs.  We have about 250 presale tickets remaining at Wyoming.  All presale tickets are $8.  After we sell out anyone who wants a presale ticket will have to purchase from Indian Hill until 3pm on Friday.  If any tickets remain, they are $9 at the door.  Please plan on arriving at Indian Hill early as parking will be at a premium.

We Were Treated to Great Seasons, And It's Not Over Yet

Like the best Halloween dark chocolate, AD Jan Wilking has some bittersweet news to share.

Congratulations to our girls’ soccer and girls’ volleyball teams who finished their seasons this past week at District Runner-Ups.  Both programs had tremendous seasons and should be very proud to once again be in the top 32 programs in the state of Ohio.

Congratulations to our girls’ cross country team who finished 6th in regionals on Saturday in Troy.

She also has the some make-your-teeth-hurt super-sweet news to share.

Boys’ soccer continues their quest for a trip to the state finals, winning on Saturday night 4-0 over Kenton Ridge.  We play on Wednesday night at 7pm at Wright State University in the regional semi final game (top 16 teams in the state) vs. Columbus Bishop Hartley.  All tickets are $7.

Football earned a third consecutive trip the state playoffs.  We take on Indian Hill on SATURDAY night at 7pm at Indian Hill.  Tickets will go on sale at school in the athletic office on Wednesday at lunch.  All tickets are $8.  GET YOUR TICKETS EARLY as we will only be given a portion of the total tickets available.  No passes are accepted for this state playoff game.  Parking will be an issue at the game on Saturday so plan to arrive early to Indian Hill.  Additional parking will be available on Drake Road and at Indian Hill Elementary School.  Carpooling is encouraged.  There will be a student spirit bus leaving Wyoming at 5:45pm on Saturday.  Tickets for the bus are $2 and MUST BE BOUGHT IN ADVANCE at lunch starting Wednesday.  Follow @WyomingSports on Twitter for more ticket updates and information as it becomes available.

Plan Your Week

Several Wyoming teams are still alive in post season play.  Here is update of events this week:

Girls Soccer:  Monday 7pm at Kings High School vs. McNick.  Sectional finals (top 64 teams in Ohio).  All tickets $6.  Winner plays on Thursday (10/29) at 7pm at Dayton Wayne High School for District Finals.

Boys Soccer:  Tuesday 7pm at Milford High School vs. McNick.  Sectional final.  All tickets $6.  Winner plays.  Winner plays Saturday (10/31) site and time TBA.

Girls Volleyball:  Saturday 6pm at Trent Arena (Kettering Fairmont High School) in District Finals (top 32 teams in Ohio) vs. the winner of Shawnee/Tipp City.

Cross Country:  Saturday Girls at 11:45 and Boys at 2:15 at Troy, OH Hobart Arena.  Wyoming girls won the District race on Saturday lead by Whitley Elsass and followed by Danielle McKee, Riley Bahr, Lily Parker and Emily Wood.  Cullen O’Brien qualified for regionals on the boys side.

Football:  We host Deer Park on Friday night at 7pm.  It is senior parent night for all our fall student athletes and band members.  A victory on Friday would give the Cowboys a good chance to earn a second consecutive playoff berth.  We would travel to another area high school for a first round game on Saturday, November 7th at 7pm.  Playoff information will be available next week.

You Might As Well Get Paid

The Wyoming Athletics Department is partnering again with Statzhub Sports.  Statzhub is a local company that tracks all high school, college and professional sport scores and stats.  

They are currently hiring Wyoming students as reporters.

Spring Sports Awards

On May 19th at 7pm in the Pendery Wyoming Athletics will recognize all spring high school student athletes (grades 9-12) at our Spring Awards Night.  We look forward to recognizing all spring junior varsity and varsity student athletes.

Senior student athletes will receive a letter from the Wyoming Boosters inviting them to the Spring Awards Night as we also recognize all our senior spring student athletes and their parents on this evening.
