That's Our Parker

At the 48th Annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet, presented by The Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame, on Wednesday, march 3rd, Parker Chalmers was honored as a finalist for the "That's My Boy" award, which recognizes Scholarship, Citizenship and Athletic Achievement.  He was one of just nine finalists for the award for Southwestern Ohio.

Coach Hancock, praised Chalmers, "Parker Chalmers is a tremendous example of the total student-athlete. Parker has an ability to make others around him better because of his leadership and high quality character. Parker is an exceptional person who values honesty and integrity. His motivation and drive to get better everyday represents what Wyoming Football is all about. Parker has left a legacy of excellence in the Wyoming Football program. It has been an honor and privilege to be a part of Parker’s high school career and his impact on our program is unmeasurable."

Max Kadish, Bernie Barre honored

Max Kadish and Bernie Barre were honored last night at The 45th Annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet held at the Westin downtown.  It is hosted by the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame.

Max was one of nine southwestern Ohio finalists for the "That's My Boy" award.  These young men are chosen based on excellence on the football field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Coach Barre was honored with the Lifetime Acheivement Award.

UC's Jones 'That's My Boy Award' Speaker

University of Cincinnati football coach Butch Jones is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the 45th National Football Foundation’s “That’s My Boy” award banquet Feb. 28 at the Westin at 7 p.m.

The award is based upon the accumulation of points in football achievements, academic achievement and extracurricular and community activities. The award will be announced at the Scholar-Athlete Dinner in the Presidential Ballroom. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the dinner at 7 p.m.

The finalists for Ohio’s award: Joe Burger, La Salle; Sean Horan, Kings; Spencer Howard, Western Brown; Max Kadish, Wyoming; Brandon Kamp, Oak Hills; Sha’Khil Kelly, Withrow; Cody Lotton, Ross; Josh Thiel, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy and Luke Wurzelbacher of Badin.


Bernie Barre, former Wyoming and Beechwood football coach, will receive the NFF chapter’s “Lifetime Achievement” award.

Barre announced Jan. 2 he would retire from education and coaching at the conclusion of Wyoming’s school year. Barre has a 317-108 coaching record overall, including 182-54 at Wyoming the past 21 years.

Max Kadish selected as "That's My Boy" finalist

Senior Max Kadish has been selected as a finalist for the 2011 That's My Boy award.

The Southwest Ohio Football Coaches Association (SWOFCA) web site states that, "The National Football Foundation-College Football Hall Of Fame/SWOFCA 'That's My Boy' Award is the most prestigious award for which a student-athlete in the Tri-State can be nominated.

The award takes into consideration high achievements in three areas: football, academics, and extracurricular involvement. Points are awarded based upon certain achievements in all three areas.  Once the points are tallied from each candidate, a "top 10" list is complied and those become the Finalists for the award.

A banquet is held yearly by the NFF (National Football Foundation) in February or March at a downtown Cincinnati hotel. It is a first-class, black tie affair that truly commemorates the achievements of the elite football student-athletes in the Tri-State area. It is a must-see event.

Scholarships are awarded to every finalist as well as football student-athletes from local colleges including Miami, Thomas More, UC and Mount St. Joseph. A guest speaker appears annually (Shaun Alexander, Mark Dantonio, Jim O'Brien, etc.) and speaks to the finalists.

The NFF ceremony is piggybacked by the Anthony Munoz Offensive/Defensive Lineman of the Year and the Marvin Lewis Foundation Coach of the year awards as well."

Wyoming has been well represented in the past - Jonathan Tighe (WHS '11), Harry Meisner (WHS '10) and Jeff King (WHS '07) have been recent finalists. Cowboys who won the award include 2010 WHS Hall of Fame Inductee Ahmed Plummer in 1995 and Assistant Varsity Football Coach Tom Berger in 1976.

Jonthan Tighe was honored last night as one of the ten finalists in Southwest Ohio for the "That's My Boy" award.  This occurred at the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame 44th Annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet held downtown at The Westin.


Family, friends and coaches were on hand to support Jonathan

Among others, Marvin Lewis was on hand to award the Coach of the Year Award and Don Treadwell, new Head Football Coach at Miami University, was the Guest Speaker.

In addition to the "That's My Boy" award, several others were given out, including the Anthony Munoz Foundation Offensive and Defensive Lineman of the Year Award.  Division winners, including Wyoming's Tommy Campbell (Division III Defensive Lineman of the Year) were honored before the banquet and attended the banquet as part of that recognition.

Side note:  Teddy Bolton feels perfectly safe as part of the high school football "chain gang", but based on the rough gang (pictured above) she was hanging out with last night, felt the need for some armament:

Senior Jonathan Tighe has been selected as a finalist for the 2011 That's My Boy award.

The Southwest Ohio Football Coaches Association (SWOFCA) web site states that, "The National Football Foundation-College Football Hall Of Fame/SWOFCA 'That's My Boy' Award is the most prestigious award for which a student-athlete in the Tri-State can be nominated."

The award is based on achievement in Football (up to 40 points), Academics (up to 40 points) and Activities (up to 20 points).  Factors considered for each:

Football - All-State, SWOFCA All-City, All-League, All-District, Varsity Letters in Football, Team Captain

Academics - College Board (ACT/SAT) scores, Class Rank, GPA, National Merit Scholar, National Honor Society

Activities - Class Officer, Student Council, Non-Football Varsity Sports letters, Organizations and Activities
