MS Boys Basketball

We don't have any specifics to report, but received a great note from a fan:

The Campbell Coaches of the 7th & 8th grade boys basketball teams are doing an excellent job this season. The future looks bright for the Wyoming Basketball Program. Thanks to all of the parents, students and friends that attend all of the games and root our teams on to victory.

Boys Basketball

VARSITY
It was a first half game as the varsity beat Finneytown 62-41 and moves to a 9-1 record.   Hitting on 9 of 11 3 pointers, 4 by Joey Edmonds, in the first half, the Cowboys led 42-24 at half.  As usual, defense played an important role.  It is strong and continues to get better.
Bill Ries word not enough for you?
Have doubts after seeing Rod Apfelbeck and Kara Pendery's pictures?
Then watch for yourself at WLWT.com HERE

JUNIOR VARSITY
Buoyed by Moey Mitchell's 18 points and Max Mariel's 13, the JV's won 57-37 over Finneytown.  They out rebounded the Wildcats by 11 and created 22 turnovers in another well played game at home.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
(As our requests for news from the Middle School teams have fallen on deaf ears, we're going to try some reverse psychology and see what we get.)
Please DON'T send us your Middle School Boys Basketball team reports or pictures.  We really DON'T want to see them. Those athletes DON'T deserve any time in the spotlight.  DON'T send those reports and stories to wyoroundup@gmail.com

Thanks to Bill Ries for the reports, and,
Thanks to Rod Apfelbeck and Kara Pendery for the great pictures.

Boys Basketball

Bill Ries reported from the Boys Varsity Basketball team

It was a fairly easy 63-46 win at Hughes on Dec. 8, with all playing well and the team starting to gel.  The five starters were the only scorers, ranging from 5 to 22, with Lonnie Grayson getting the 22.  Garyn Prater helped with 16.  Mason Rogers got 8 of our 21 rebounds.  Wyoming hit 8 of 11 three pointers, led by Lonnie's 3.  One game oddity:  The Cowboys only had 6 fouls called against them, 3 apiece for just  2 players, Mason and Garyn.  No other player committed a foul the entire game.

We don't have anything to report for the other Boys Basketball teams.  There are rumors of reports and pictures gathering in the wings for the Freshman and JV teams, so we'll wait patiently.

If the MS teams haven't been inducted into the C.O.W.B.O.Y.S (the Clandestine Obfuscated World Bowling Order of Youth Sports) yet, maybe someone like you would consider sending us a report every once in a while.

Boys Basketball Posted Here

Not to be too far out-done by the Girls Basketball teams, we have a report for the Boys Varsity Basketball team.  There are a lot more Boys Basketball players than are just on the Varsity team.  If you or someone you love is on one of those other Cowboy Boys Basketball teams we'd love to include news about your team also.  Send your reports to wyoroundup@gmail.com

Bill Ries sent in this report from the Saturday, December 5 Varsity game against Ross

Recently, the boys basketball team faced a strong Indian Hills team who shot 61% against our 30%.  Now, just the reverse as Wyoming shot 59% on 24 baskets in 41 attempts.  The Cowboys  were led, scoring wise, by Garyn Prater's 18 and Lonnie Grayson's 17 points.  Lonnie looked like the Lonnie of last year, as he hit on 4 3's from long range.  Joey Edmonds also hit 4 3's as the team easily outscored Ross 69-34.  A fine offensive and defensive evening for everyone who played.  Cowboys now 2-1.
Thanks to Bill Ries for the report. and
Thanks to Rod Apfelbeck for the pictures.

#1 Squared

Kara Pendery, the Round Up Editor Heir Apparent, gets us ready for the MS Boys Basketball post-season with this report.

It's time for the CHL tournament for the Middle School basketball teams.  The 7th and 8th grade boys teams are both seeded #1!  Congrats to all the players and coaches.  It has been such a great season.

Barring any changes due to weather, this is where you'll find the boys.  Come out and watch some great middle school basketball!

The 7th grade tournament is being hosted at Finneytown's Secondary Campus. Wyoming (1) v Mariemont (4) on Wednesday 2/18 at 4:30pm.

Don't let the 7th grade basketball team pull their hair out waiting to see if you'll show up for their game.
The 8th grade tournament is being hosted at Wyoming Middle School. Wyoming (1) v Mariemont (4) on Wednesday 2/18 at 4:30pm.
We need more of this ....
To come see more of this .....
The boys will play 2 games, regardless of the first round results.  We hope to see both Wyoming teams playing in the Championship game, which should be at 5:30 on Thursday.  However, don't take my word for it ... get confirmation before heading out to the game from your favorite basketball player.  For the games played at Wyoming MS, we will be honoring our booster passes.  If you are not an owner of one of these gems, the cost to see the game will be $4 for adults and $3 for students.

While you wait for the CHL tournament, you can catch up on some 8th grade action here:

It's a great day to be a Cowboy!!!

Thanks to Kara Pendery for the report and the great pictures.

Still Undefeated

Kara Pendery gets us up to speed with the 8th grade Boys Basketball team.
I have learned one very important thing during these cold winter months.  It's impossible to be fired from your volunteer job as a Middle School sports 'reporter' even when you don't submit a report!  I know, it was surprising to me too.  (Editor's Note - True, Kara's not getting fired, but we do have HR looking into some options. We're considering have her also become an investigative journalist and check into the mystery of the invisible HS Bowling team.) So, I am guessing you have all been wondering how the Middle School 8th grade basketball team has been doing this season?  Well, it may come as a surprise to a few, but not to the intelligent readership of this fine blog .... but they remain undefeated!!  The middle school boys' basketball teams have 3 games yet to be played, prior to the CHL tournament.  There is still time for you to come out and watch them play.  If you haven't made it out to see the new gym, you really need to.  Don't leave home without your booster card!
We have a great match-up on Wednesday, February 4th at HOME vs Mariemont. It will be another great game between these 2 teams.  Monday, February 9th they travel to Deer Park.

The game to watch will be Wednesday February 11th!  The Cowboys will host Reading for the final league game this year.  This is always a battle.  We would really like to see a big HOME crowd for their last home games.
Thanks to our un-fireable volunteer, Kara Pendery

You will be mesmerized by the new scoreboard as well as the action on the court.
You will probably see excitement from our coaches
As well as from the team and cheerleaders
These boys are undefeated and would appreciate the support!
Season pictures and updates coming soon .....

Thanks to Kara Pendery for the report and pictures.

The Way Back Machine

It's all over but the crying (in Indian Hill and Reading anyway).  I'm sure you've heard by now that the 7th grade boys are Champions.  A deadline issue forced this story that we received to get put on hold.  However, it's hard to turn down Kara Pendery's game highlights and photos.  So let's take a retrospective look way back to the game that brought our Cowboys to the Championship.

The boys played a tough Reading team on Wednesday (February 19th).  They started off slow and were held scoreless until the last 2 minutes of the first quarter.  Joe Edmonds started the scoring for the Cowboys with 2 minutes left in the first quarter.  Joe Edmonds, Moe Mitchell, Pierson Rogers and Shep Marty all put up points for the big win.
Thanks again to Kara Pendery for the report and the pictures.

Cowboy Champions

On Friday, February 21st, the High School gym was packed.  Everyone turned out for some on-your-feet basketball action.  Some of the young men on the court had familiar names, but seemed much shorter than you might have been expecting for such a turn out. This was the 7th grade Boys Basketball Championship game.  Reports from parents shared a theme of great appreciation for the Crazies, who cheered on their younger, future counter-parts.  Not the young Cowboys needed much help.  They finished the night 44-23 over  Indian Hill thanks in part to Joey Edmonds who led the scoring with 22, followed by Pierson Rogers (13), Moey Mitchell (4), Rico Schneider (3) and Shep Marty with (2).  They finished their season 16-1 under Coach Stofko.
Thanks again to the High School Basketball team and to the Crazies for supporting the 7th graders in such a spectacular fashion.
Thanks to Kara Pendery some great photos and game details.

Stofko's Stalwart Shooters

Kara Pendery sent us a report from the 7th grade Boys' Basketball team.

They finished their season 14-1.  They lost a nail biter in overtime to Madeira.  Their first tournament game is Wednesday February 19th 5:30PM at Wyoming High School.  They will be playing Reading.

If we win on Wednesday then the second game will be at 7:00 against the winner of Indian Hill vs. Mariemont and if we lose Wednesday then the game will played at 8:15. Let's go ahead and plan on them playing at 7:00 :)
Maybe report wasn't the best word to use.  Let's call it more of a call to action.  Let's turn out like the die-hards below to support out future high school superstars at Wednesday's game against Reading at the High School.
Thanks to Kara Pendery for the report and the pictures.
