Hall of Fame 2014

This year we inducted four outstanding athletes into the Wyoming High School Hall of Fame!

The inductees include:

Joan Gentry Wooten Class of 1975

Ryan Fleming Class of 1997

Richard Hall Class of 1999

Randy Church Class of 1990

These individuals will forever have their names added to the Hall of Fame Wall in the Pendry Center. Please stop by the Pendry Center and see the plaques identifying their numerous accomplishments and reflect on the success of the 96 other inductees they join.

Joan Gentry participated in thirteen sports setting records and winning championships in Softball, Basketball, Volleyball, Track and Field Hockey. Upon graduation she was a National Merit Scholar and won the City of Cincinnati Girls Athletic Award.

Ryan Fleming participated in eleven sports including Football, Basketball and Track where he won numerous team championships and individual awards. Upon graduation he was the Fred S. Dewey Memorial Award winner (Athlete of the Year) and College Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete award winner. Ryan held school records in receiving yards in a season and touch downs in a season.

Richard Hall participated in eight sports including Football and Basketball. In Football, he rushed for over 2000 yards in three separate seasons. In Basketball, he scored more then 1000 points. Upon graduation he held records in yards rushing in a season and career. Richard was Ohio's "Mr Football" (Ohio Player of the Year) and he is the second all time touch down scorer in Ohio High School history.

Randy Church participated in nine sports including Football, Basketball and Baseball. His teams won many CHL championships while he won individual Sectional, District and State awards. Randy was the Fred S. Dewey Memorial Award winner (Athlete of the Year) and upon graduation held records in touch downs in a game, yards passing in a game, three point shots made in a game.

Don't miss hometown hero, Holly Porter Little ('93) as she is inducted into the LaRosa's Hall of Fame.  The LaRosa's 2012 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Sunday, June 30 will be telecast live at 2PM on CET.

A Field By Any Other Name...

Wyoming High School Field to Be Named After Legendary Coach

The Wyoming Board of Education announced that the Wyoming High School football field in Bob Lewis Stadium will be named after Wyoming’s newly retired Coach Bernie Barre.
Mr. Barre’s career in Wyoming has been legendary with a tremendous record of success. In 21 years, he compiled a record of 182 wins and 54 losses, fifteen playoff berths, two regional championships, and 11Cincinnati Hills League Championships. Mr. Barre is a member of Wyoming School’s Athletic Hall of Fame and the Ohio High School Coach’s Hall of Fame. Before joining the staff at Wyoming, he was head Coach at Beechwood Schools in Kentucky for 16 years and is a member of their Hall of Fame as well. Overall, Mr. Barre’s coaching record is 317 wins and 108 losses. During his career, he was among Ohio’s most respected coaches known as a dedicated and caring person who was committed to the betterment of the students he served.
Mr. Barre joined the staff of Wyoming Schools as Assistant Middle School Principal, Athletic Director, and as Head Varsity Football Coach in 1991. He is a Wyoming High School graduate in the Class of 1970.
“It is a great privilege to honor Bernie Barre in this manner,” stated Superintendent Dr. Susan Lang. “As an educator and as a coach, Bernie served as an excellent example of someone who has inspired and positively impacted the lives of students. He was a role model teaching student athletes about teamwork, camaraderie, dedication, perseverance, and personal integrity. Naming the field in his honor signifies all that is good in high school athletics.”
The stadium was named after another Wyoming legend, Bob Lewis, who coached in Wyoming from 1956 until 1978. He, too, had a very impressive record with an overall coaching record of 198 wins, 21 losses, and 7 ties.  The stadium is dedicated to “the memory of ‘Coach’ and all that he mean to the youth of Wyoming.”
“Bernie's successes and achievements were a direct result of his passion and commitment to the student-athletes of Wyoming High School,” stated Athletic Director Scott Kaufman. “His leadership carried on the great tradition established by Coach Bob Lewis. It is only right that their names be permanently enshrined together.”
A formal dedication ceremony for the Bernie Barre Field is planned in the fall of 2013.

Hall of Fame Holly

We've known it all along, but now it's official - Cincinnati style.  Wyoming alumna Holly Porter Little ('93) has been elected to be inducted into the LaRosa's High School Sports Hall of Fame.  Look out for more information on the June ceremonies.

Six all-time great athletes and a legendary coach are the 2012 electees to the Buddy LaRosa’s High School Sports Hall of Fame.

The seven latest additions will be officially inducted into the Hall during June ceremonies at WCET-TV studios Downtown.The hall is in its 38th year of recognizing area high school athletes and coaches. It has honored 237 individuals since its founding in 1975.

The 2012 inductees are: Adrienne Hundemer (Dayton, Class of 1994); Jackie Kemper (Mercy, Class of 1981); Michael Muñoz (Moeller, Class of 2000); Michelle Muñoz Trenz (Mason, Class of 2001); Holly Porter Little (Wyoming, Class of 1993); Tad Schroeder (Withrow, Class of1954) and coachRayKues (St. Henry, Bishop Brossart and Silver Grove, 1984-2009). Michelle and Michael are the 10th sibling set to be inducted into the hall.

Holly Porter Little, Wyoming: A multi-sport standout at Wyoming, she excelled in basketball, where she still holds 10 school records, including career scoring (2,026 points), rebounding (1,095) and steals (503). Her basketball excellence continued at Boston College, where she was named Big East Rookie of the Year, third team All-Big East and set Big East freshman records. She had 2,047 career points and 902 career rebounds at Boston College.

Holly is also a Boston College Hall of Famer.  The following is from the BC Eagles website:
A dominating rebounder and dead-eye shooter, her stellar play helped boost Boston College women's basketball to BIG EAST and national stature and success.
BIG EAST "Rookie of the Year" as a freshman, she followed with All-BIG EAST honors in each of her succeeding varsity seasons.
Set a school standard for rebounds with 902 in 108 varsity games (8.4 average). Scored 1957 career points, an impressive 18.1 per game output, as she sunk 47.5 % of her field goal attempts.
A skilled player in every aspect of the game, she led the team in steals for three seasons (196 total) and was credited with 182 career assists.
Inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.

Marlon Styles to be inducted into Northwest Hall of Fame

Wyoming High School Assistant Principal Marlon J. Styles, Jr. has been selected for induction into the Northwest Hall of Fame.  The ceremony will be held April 21st.

NO - this is not an April Fool's joke - see the article here.

Mr. Styles, Class of 1996, is being honored for his achievements in baseball, basketball and football.

His boss, HS Principal Aaron Marshall, offered this endorsement, "If half of the things are true that he tells me...he must have been pretty darn good!"

All kidding aside, congratulations to Marlon.

Three inducted into Wyoming Athletic Hall of Fame

Wyoming graduates Darryl Lawson, WHS '76 (below right), Ahmed Plummer, WHS '95 (below left), and Chris Tommelein, WHS '83 (below middle) were inducted into the Wyoming High School Athletic Hall of Fame before the Norwood game Friday night and recognized at halftime thereof.

Darryl was introduced by long-time friend and teammate and current Wyoming assistant football coach Tom Berger, Ahmed by his brother Cleon, and Chris by Gene Pitman.

Hall of Fame Induction this Friday

Come join us as Wyoming High School inducts three new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame before the Norwood football game this Friday.

The inductees will be honored at a ceremony in the Pendery Center Lobby at 5:30 PM and then recognized at halftime of the football game.

Inductees are Chris Tommelein, WHS '83, who was a co-captain for the football, basketball and baseball teams his senior year when he was selected first team all-league and all-city for baseball, Darryl Lawson, WHS '76, who in his senior year was an all-state football player and finished 5th in the state wrestling championships, and Ahmed Plummer, WHS '94, who as a senior was selected to the all-state football team as both an offensive and defensive player and who went on to play at Ohio State and for the San Francisco 49ers.

Irvine '81, Pipes '94 and Scott '62 inducted into Hall of Fame

Bryn Irvine, Class of 1981, Steve Pipes, Class of 1994 and Richard Scott, Class of 1962 were inducted into the Wyoming Hall of Fame Friday night before the football game and honored at halftime.

Steve was presented by his uncle, Ed Pipes, Bryn by his brother, Dana, and Richard by Master of Ceremonies Terry Marty.

2009 Hall of Fame Inductees: Irvine '81, Pipes '94 and Scott '62

This Friday, October 23, 2009 at 5:30 PM the Wyoming High School Booster Association will induct the Hall of Fame Class of 2009. The ceremony will take place in the Pendery Lobby of Wyoming High School. The 2009 Inductees are Byrn Irvine '81, Steven Pipes '94 and Richard Scott '62.

Bryn Irvine

Bryn Irvine, a 1981 graduate, was a 12-sport letterman participating in Soccer, Wrestling and Tennis. Bryn is the first Men’s Soccer player inducted into the Hall of Fame. He was a pioneer in the establishment of Varsity Soccer program at Wyoming while being a Capitan and two-time All City Honorable mention player. Bryn’s winters were spent on the wrestling mat leading the Cowboys with three league championships and numerous sectional, district and state-qualifying matches. Bryn’s Varsity Wrestling record over his last three seasons was 84-7. His best season was 30-1. Bryn’s spring season was spent on the Tennis court where he served as team captain and was a state qualifier in doubles with teammate Jeff Berman. Bryn was the 1981 Fred S. Dewey award winner.
 
Steven Pipes

Steven Pipes, a 1994 graduate, was a ten-sport letter participant competing in Football, Basketball and Track. As a four-year Varsity Football player, Steven led the Cowboys to two CHL Championships while being the MVP and an East/West City All-Star. As a three year Varsity Basketball player, he won CHL titles, was an All City honorable mention and a McDonalds All American Nominee. On the Track, Steven participated in Sectional, Regional and State relay teams in the 4x100 and 1600m. Steven was the 1994 recipient of the Fred S. Dewey Award.
 
Richard Scott

Richard Scott, a 1962 graduate, participated in fourteen sports at Wyoming in Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track. Richard participated on four Conference champion Cowboy Football teams! Three of his teams went undefeated in the league! On the basketball court, Richard won three conference championships and served as captain in those winning efforts. In the spring, Richard doubled his efforts as a Varsity Baseball player and Track star. Richard was the 1962 recipient of the Fred S. Dewey Award.
