MS Wrestling update

I received this update on the Middle School wrestling team:

Middle School Wrestlers Placing in Tough Tourneys

The Middle School Wrestling team has completed the two toughest events on the schedule the past two weekends.

Last week at the Madeira Invitational Tournament, four Cowboys brought home awards by placing in the top six. Congrats to Zach Van Fossen (5th), Justin Shields (3rd), Luke Kremzar (6th) and Dylan Kripal (4th). Both Justin and Dylan made it to the championship semi-finals before losing to the eventual champion.

This weekend the team competed in the JH Coaches Classic at Reading High School. Justin and Dylan were the only placers in their weight classes not wrestling for a Division I school. Dylan took home 3rd Place, losing only to the eventual champion from Harrison. Justin was the runner-up, taking 2nd Place, losing a well fought match in the finals to a seasoned wrestler from Mason. These are two of the best finishes by Wyoming wrestlers in this tournament in recent history.

Congratulations to Justin and Dylan, as well as the rest of the hard charging Wyoming Middle School Team!

The school season finishes up next week at the scrappy Bethel Tate “Old School” tournament.

Middle School swim team loses narrowly to Mariemont

From Middle School Swimming Head Coach Peter Tsivitse:

Mariemont-141
Wyoming-140

Congratulations to the Wyoming swimmers and divers!!!!

Although Wyoming came up short against Mariemont that was a very exciting swim meet. We had 3 races that were decided by .05 seconds with Wyoming on the short end. If we had won any one of those races we would have won the meet. Every race was competitive, the swimmers all fought hard and represented W.M.S. with excellence. Many swimmers had personal best times. They cheered each other on throughout the entire meet. It was a total team effort!! The divers all competed well, picking up many points for the team with their 2nd thru 5th place finish.

Thursday, January 12th - Wyoming vs Sycamore at Sycamore High School. This will be a very competitive meet - come on over and cheer on the W.M.S. swimmers and divers.

Go Cowboys!!
Coach Pete

They all  have shown a marked improvement in their stroke technique resulting in faster swim times. Since the start of the season, all swimmers have made substantial progress and best of all, they seem to enjoy the swim competition and the team spirit.

Middle School Swim & Dive team update from Coach Dave

The Wyoming Middle School Swim & Dive team is off to a great start with three wins ( vs. Norwood, Mason and Cincinnati Country Day).

The highlight of these three meets was the 144 – 139 win at Mason on December 5. As you would expect, the Mason team is about twice as big as Wyoming. But our squad came from behind to outscore Mason in the second half of the meet, securing the team victory with a win in the meets final event - the 200 Free Relay.

The CCD meet followed on December 8 with a very strong 203 – 50 showing by the Cowfish.

Next up on the schedule: Kings Middle School December 17 3:30PM at the PCY.

Middle School Swimming & Diving is one team comprised of 7th and 8th grade boys and girls. This year’s team is a nice mix of year-round club swimmers (Marlins and PCY), summer club swimmers (Sea Dragons and Swordfish), as well as some first time swimmers.

Note to all current 6th & 7th graders who may be interested in swimming on the Middle School team next year: No experience necessary! Try one of the summer teams in 2012 (Sea Dragons or Swordfish) and if you like it, come out for your school team next year.
