Glory Days

The Community Press & Recorder is working on an ongoing, multimodal project called “Glory Days,” featuring local high school sports history and memories.

Readers are encouraged to send photos, story ideas, favorite sports memories, anniversaries and other related items to cpglorydays@gmail.com.

Submissions will be compiled over time and may be used for Glory Days notes in Press Preps Highlights, stand-alone informational photos, galleries, Cincinnati.com preps blog posts, Twitter posts, feature stories or videos.

Many items will be printed in the weekly papers, used on Twitter (#GloryDays) and/or posted on cincinnati.com in turn through writers Mark Motz (@PressPrepsMark), Tom Skeen (@PressPrepsTom), Scott Springer (@cpscottspringer), James Weber (@RecorderWeber), Melanie Laughman (@mlaughman) and Adam Turer (@adamturer).

Please include as much information as possible – names, contact information, high schools, graduation years and dates of memories or historical notes. Unless otherwise stated, information will be attributed to the submitter.

This Week in the TCP

I'm not saying you have Seasonal Affective Disorder, but if you did, 9 out of 10 imaginary doctors recommend staring at pictures of cross-dressing athletes in eye patches to ease your symptoms.  To that end, the Tri-County Press has a nice full page feature from the Kicks for a Cure event held in the Fall.  

If that isn't enough of a throwback to Fall, there is also an article about our own Coach Hancock being named the Defensive Coordinator for the upcoming Border Classic.

Rounding things out are short write-ups for the Boy's Basketball team's wins over Deer Park and Madeira, the Girls' Basketball team's wins against Madeira and North College Hill, and the Wrestling team's showing at the Charlie Moore Invitational.

Also, wrestler Ike Palmer was mentioned in a Letter to the Editor for his dedication to his team for returning to the Charlie Moore Invitational to continue wrestling after going to the hospital for 15 stitches for a cut he received in his Semi-Final match.  What makes the praise even sweeter was that it came from a reader outside of our fair city.

This Week in the TCP

It's was a big week for Wyoming in the Tri-County Press this week.  There was an article about the Volleyball team's run into the post-season and prospects for next season.  Natalie Burchard, Grace Schneider, Jessica Leish and Madi Maisel were pictured.  There was also a summary of the Football team's big win over Indian Hill.  The Boys Cross Country team's State qualifying Regional Meet performance was also mentioned. Homecoming also made the paper.  Our Cowboys were featured in several great photos.

This Week in the TCP

This week in the Tri-County Press, there was a great article about our Girls' Tennis team and the post-season.  Pictures were Haley Thoresen and Maddie Boster.  Also in the issue, there were highlights from the Football teams recent victories against Deer Park and Mariemont.  There were also highlights and summaries of the Boys' Cross Country team taking 1st in the CHL meet, and the Girls' team taking second.  Girls' Soccer was not be left out as the win over Blanchester was mentioned, and Volleyball made the cut too, with mention of their win over Woodward.

Recently in the Tri-County Press

It's been a whirlwind week.  I wanted to let you catch your breath before I posted about the Tri-County Press coverage of our awesome athletes.

Did you catch the article about the end of the Golf Team's crazy amazing season?  Pictured in the article was Henry Moore and Sam Marty.  Also pictured in this week's issue was the Seniors of the Girls' Volleyball team and the Boys' Soccer team.  You will also find highlights from the Football team's 41-0 win over Reading on October 4, as well as the Girls' Tennis team's Haley Thoresen and Maddie Boster's path to the State Tournament.

I'm a Gen X'er, so I guess my slackerness comes naturally.  I know it's been awhile since I've actually posted about our athletes getting highlighted in the Tri-County Press.  I figured I better get on the ball after my paperboy stared me down on Wednesday. 
This week in the Tri-County Press there was a great article about the Boys' Soccer team and their post-season plans.  Pictured in the article were Nolan Prevish, Ryan and Andrew Derge, and Toby Varland. 
You will also find a picture of the Seniors of the Girls' Soccer team from their 4-0 crushing of Deer Park on October 2nd.
There was also a write-up for the Football team's steamrolling of Taylor, including a picture of Terrell Dailey and a link to see video of Will Marty after the game.
And there were also write-ups from the Cross Country teams' showing at the St. X Invitational, the Boys' Golf finish at the District Tournament, the Boys' Soccer team's blowout against Deer Park, and the Girls' Volleyball team's wins over Taylor, Indian Hill, and Mariemont.

This Week in the TCP

There was a nice article about the Softball Team's seniors and their season.  There was also a brief summary of the team's shut-out of Madeira on April 29th.  Pictured were Senior Clara Merten, Senior Gabbby Potvin, and Junior Ellen Koesterman.

Baseball had summaries of their wins over Finneytown, Taylor, and Madeira.  Pictured were Daniel Gilbert and Michael Kelly. 

Also, Senior Sara Smith made the news for winning one of the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarships.

Wyoming was well represented in the nominations for the Tri-County Press Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.  Harrison Glover and Casey Howell are both up for Sportsman of the Year, and Abby Keller and Carly Levick are nominated for Sportswoman of the Year.

Voting runs until May 22 and you can vote once a day through a Cincinnati.com or Facebook account.

This Recent Week in the TCP

This week (or last... I'm kinda late)  there was a lot of Cowboy action in the Tri-County Press. 

There was a mid-season pre-season article about local Tennis teams, including our own Cowboys complete with a great picture of Sophomore Will Carter.  There was also a write-up about the teams twin-win over Finneytown and Taylor on April 10th.

Also, there was a blurb for the Boys Track win at the Coaches Classic that included a sweet shot of Junior Terrell Dailey.

 And the Baseball Team's 16-3 5 inning romp over Deer Park made the news as well.

Not to be left out, the Girls' Lacrosse Team got their props for the 7-2 whipping of Indian Hill.

Finally, the Boys' Lacrosse team got a write-up for their heartbreaker against Milford on April 10th, that included a nice shot of Junior David Moody.

This Week in the TCP

In the Tri-County Press this week, you will find a preview of the Track season.  The title of the article mentions Princeton, but looking at all the blue uniforms on the page lets you know what time it is.  Pictured for the article are Jalen Fox, Kayla Livingston, Cynthia Reinecke, Ben Stites, and Ian Goertzen.

You will also find brief summaries of the Softball team's April 2nd loss to Princeton (accompanied by a picture of Clara Merten from the April 1st massacre at Mariemont),  the Baseball team's April 2n walloping of Western Hills, the Boys Track team's second place finish at the Coaches Classic, and also the Boys' Tennis team's April 5th shellacking of Loveland.

I'm not sure what Webster defines as a sport.  There may be some that say the Science Olympiad isn't a sport.  I'm not so sure... I mean there is a competition with a winning team and more than 199 not-the-winning-teams, "Olympiad" obviously shares entomological roots with "Olympics", and just how much physical exertion do you think it takes to chase down early prototypes of the Mousetrap Vehicle or climb a bazillion stairs to test the Rotor Egg-Drop.  All of this to set the stage for the news that the Middle School Science Olympiad Team took 1st place, while the High School team took 2nd place.

This week in the Tri-County Press, there is a great article about the Cowboys upcoming softball season.  It includes pictures of Seniors Gabby Potvin and Audra Chalmers as well as a team shot all from last year.
Also you will find a pictures of Junior Casey Howell from the March 29th scrimmage against Goshen.

This week in the Tri-County Press, there is a preview of the Lacrosse season featuring a great picture of the team from last year.  There is also an article honoring Our own Varsity Golfer, Catherine Elsaesser, who achieved the Girl Scout Gold Award. 

There is also a  notice that nominations for the Fifth Annual Community Press and Recorder Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year award will begin in early April.

I know, I know... I have gotten waaaay behind on relaying information about the athletes and teams that make it into the Tri-County Press.  In an effort to stop the angry letters, threatening phone calls, and mysteriously flat tires, I am back on-track.

This week in the Tri-County Press, the story of the naming of Bernie Barre Field made front page news!  Also getting a nice article is Jonathan Rutter, State CHAMPION in the 100M Breaststroke.  There is a brief mention of Drew Williamson as honored at the 46th annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet, as well as a re-cap of the Boys' Basketball final game against Hughes in the Post-Season.
