The Girls JV tennis team is finishing the season strong with two very close, BIG wins over CHCA and Mariemont.  We beat both teams 3-2, and both were very close matches to the end.  Notably, Emma Jacquamin fought hard for a win in a third set tiebreaker against a very formidable opponent.  Also, Sarah Sheerajin and Isabella Getgey won in a third set tiebreaker as well.

Most importantly, this tennis team represents Wyoming with stellar sportsmanship, honesty, integrity, and respect toward one another and our guest teams.  They fight to the end every match and their hard work is paying off.  Great job team!

Make Shields a Shoo-In

Justin Shields has been nominated for this week’s Ohio National Guard Cincinnati High School Player of the Week on Bengals.com. We encourage you to show your school spirit by clicking the link below and voting for Justin. Every vote matters! If Justin is selected as this week’s winner, he will be recognized at Paul Brown Stadium on December 22th when the Cincinnati Bengals take on the Denver Broncos. The Ohio National Guard will also visit Wyoming to present Justin with an award if he wins. Please show Justin how proud you are of his on-field performance.

En Masse Against Mariemont

From Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Steve Thomas,

Tonight, (Tuesday, September 23rd, 7:00 PM at home) the Varsity Team plays a very good team from Mariemont in our journey to become CHL Champs! We need everyone (Parents, Grandparents, Siblings, Friends) to come and cheer us on to victory!

We so appreciated the great turn-out for last week’s game against Indian Hill. I think we actually had more fans than Indian Hill! Your presence made a difference for us and we heard you! You made a difference in being there.

Please invite everyone you know to come out tonight!

I think this is the kind of turn out we're looking for.

Advance and Be Recognized

The Wyoming girls golf team placed third in the D.II sectional golf tournament out of ten teams and now advance to the district tournament on Wednesday, 10/1.

The girls were led by senior captain Sam Pease who finished with the 6th best overall score out of 62 players, shooting 93. Also scoring were Elizabeth Hughes-106, tied for 18th, Lucy Walton-115, tied for 28th. and Sydney Wellman-120, tied for 35th.

Congrats to all of the girls on this years team for a very good season. Best of luck next week.

A Mauling in Madeira

Friday, September 19th, the Football team was on the road at Madeira.  You know it's probably not really going to be "anyone's game" when your opponent won't take their own field until the ref forces them.  Of course, I don't really know if that was the case.  For all I know, the picture above is of the ref calling for the flower girl and coin bearer to come to field for the coin-toss.  I know, I know... you're less than impressed with my lame attempt at humor - there aren't coin bearers in football.  That makes you (yes, you) the perfect candidate to send in reports from the game that contain a few non-nonsensical, factual, game or team related sentences and at least the state minimum required amount of sports jargon.  (That's really why I threw in the bit about the flower girl; I don't want to lose my sports blog editor license.)   In the absence of anything more intelligent or substantial, the silliness continues.  

Judging from the stats and the 54-8 final, it must have seemed like a Harlem Globetrotters game out there.  I'm sure there will be those Monday morning quarterbacks out there questioning Hancock's decision to keep the offense working instead of having them just get back on the bus after the first quarter as the 12 points they had already put up would have been enough to win the game and hand Madeira their first loss of the season.

Cowboys Conquer CHL Tournament

The Wyoming HS Boys High School Golf team delivered a knockout punch on Saturday by winning the CHL Tournament by a resounding 16 shots over second place Madeira.  Led by Senior Johnny Hughes with a score of 75, the Cowboys lapped the field with a team score of 320.  Second place Madeira shot 336, Taylor was third with a 337 and Indian Hill was fourth with 338.

Rounding out the scoring for the Cowboys were Junior Sam Marty and Sophomore Cooper Hausfeld, who each shot 80 and sophomore Jack Fischer who shot 85.  The Cowboys strong finish allowed them to climb from 3rd place at the start of the day to finish in 2nd place for the regular season standings in the CHL.  Next up for the team is the first round of the post season, Division II Sectionals at Sharon Woods on Wednesday 9/24.

Golfing Glory

Coach Crider sent word from the Boys Varsity Golf team's big win.

On Thursday afternoon, the Wyoming Boys golf team took on McNicholas, the #1 rated division II team in the Southern Ohio District this season.  McNicholas entered the match with only one loss on the year, to division I powerhouse St. Xavier.  The Cowboys played just well enough to secure an upset victory by a score of 166 – 175.  Wyoming was led by Junior Sam Marty, who was the match medalist with a score of 39.  He was followed closely by Senior Johnny Hughes, who posted a score of 40 for the Cowboys.  Rounding out the scoring for Wyoming were Senior Greg Theile with a 43 and Sophomore Cooper Hausfeld with a 44.

Next up for the Boys golf team is the CHL Championship this Saturday starting at Noon at Sharon Woods Golf Course.  The team enters the CHL Tournament in 3rd place in the league, with an outside chance to win the league title outright.

Susan Osha reports to catch us all up on the week of WMS Girls Tennis

Tuesday, 9/16, the team traveled to Mason to play the Comets A team. Two matches went to tiebreakers to determine a winner. Anya Kirsch won her singles battle. The team of Eleanor Stall and Jenny Lewis fought hard, but ultimately the Mason team prevailed in this thrilling doubles match.
Overall, Wyoming 1, Mason 4

Wednesday, 9/17, the WMS tennis team faced off against Seven Hills.
Emily Mayer/Eleanor Stall won court 1 doubles, and Jenny Lewis/Peyton Osha took court three. Anya Kirsch/Sophie Williams‘ match was decided by a tiebreaker, ultimately ending in favor of the Seven Hills team.

Next match is Monday, 9/22, at Turpin HS, versus Nagel Middle School

Jen Hays reported for the Boys Varsiity Soccer team:

Tuesday, Sept 16th the Wyoming Men's varsity soccer team took on Indian Hill on their turf.  What a great game it was.  These were two pretty evenly matched team, but Wyoming definitely dominated that night.  Although they had numerous...and I mean numerous, shots on goal, only one went into the net.  That lonely goal was scored by none other than Christopher Rutter!  Final score Wyoming 1 - Indian Hill 0

We'd like to thank all the fans that came out to cheer on the guys.  We had such a fantastic turnout of students, family, friends, parents (I think we had a better showing than Indian Hill and they were home team).  All the support and yelling made and exciting game that much more fun!  I know the guys and coaches appreciated having you all come out.

Next game isn't until Tuesday, Sept 23rd at Home vs. Mariemont.
