The wrestling team finished 9^th at Deer Park Invitational on Saturday, December 8th.

Placers for Wyoming were:

Champion: Ike Palmer-220 lbs.

Runner-Up: Cedric Simmons-220 lbs.

4^th Place: Asa Palmer-132 lbs.

6^th Place: Dylan Kripal-182 lbs.

 

The Varsity and Junior High travel to Summit on Wednesday, December 12th, for their next match.

 

Isn't the word Champion about a thousand time more awesomer (it's a word - look it up) than Winner?

Boys' Basketball Short Against Mariemont

The Wyoming Boys' Basketball team faced Mariemont here at home on Friday, December 7th.  They were up 27 to 25 at the half, but couldn't hang on and finished at 37 to 43

Girls' Basketball Getting Closer

There seems to be a light at the end of a long dark tunnel for the Girls' Basketball team.  On Wednesday, December 5th, the continued their long road trip in Mariemont.  They lost again, but not by much; final score 31-38.  The girls were out-rebounded 25-42 but had more than twice as many steals as Mariemont and led in blocks as well.  Ashli O'Neal went double digits with 14points.  Emily Wadds and Kelsey Brunsman both put in 5 with Hailey Stewart close behind with 4.  Morgan Cunningham came in with 2 and Natalie Burchard contributed 1.

Make sure you come out in force this Saturday to support our ladies when they come back for their home opener against Deer Park who is also looking for their first win.

Wyoming Stomps Madeira

Wyoming Swimming won the Swim Meet against Madeira on Tuesday, Dec. 4th. This was the first meet of the season with the full Wyoming squad. The Women's team won 88-54. Individual winners were Sara Washienko (100 Free), Caroline Duke (200 Free and 100 Fly), and Daria Oberholzer (100 Back). The Women's 400 Free Relay (Duke, Oberholzer, Camille Wilson and Washienko) also won. The Men's team dominated Madeira and won 111-38. Wyoming won every event. Individual winners were Brennan Burt (200 Free and 500 Free), Max Chou (100 Back and 100 Fly), Christopher Rutter (100 Breast and 200 IM), David Weinrich (50 Free) and Carson Skidmore (100 Free). Winning relays consisted of 200 Free Relay (Stephen Barrett, C. Skidmore, D. Weinrich, and Ian Nyberg), 400 Free Relay (C. Skidmore, Chou, C. Rutter, B. Burt) and 200 Medley Relay (Chou, C. Rutter, Nyberg and Burt). Wyoming will face one of its most challenging meets of the season this Saturday, Dec. 8th when the men face off in a double dual meet against St. X and Covington Catholic, and the women compete against McAuley. The first race at Keating Natatorium starts at 2:30 pm. Full results are available here.   Wow! 88-54 and 111-38 those are impressive margins of victory.  It looks like the Middle School Cowfish come by big, over-the top wins honestly.  Way to go Team!!    Thanks to Heather "Heat Sheet" Lethander for the report.

Heartbreak Finish for Boy's Basketball Opener

Who's ready for Boys' Basketball?

On Tuesday, December 4th, the Boys' Basketball team opened the season at here at home against Sycamore with a 40-48 loss.  The fans must have been on the edge of their seats at the end as the Cowboys scored almost as often during the fourth quarter than they had during the first three quarters combined.  Ahmed Frost led the scoring with 9 points, followed close behind by Will Marty with 8, and Walker Lewis 7.  Ben Kurtz and Mark Akinbi each had 6, Dawson Rodgers scored 3 and Mason Rodgers finished up with 1 point.

Wrestling Team Splits Tri-Match

The wrestling team went 1-1 Wednesday (December 5th) with a win over Little Miami 59 to 18 and a loss to Cooper 30 to 48

 

Record 3-4

 

A special recognition goes to sophomore Jacob Demott who earned his first 2 career wins with pins on Wednesday evening.

As a coaches we get very excited as our athletes accomplish milestones, records, and special moments in their lives.  Jacob's first victory was very special to his teammates, coaches, family, and to Jacob. He is someone who has worked hard to improve. He never won a match last year and never went an entire 6-minutes. This year he accomplished both feats. Earning your first win is a special moment for a wrestler, and is extremely rewarding for a coach.  The smile upon his face, after his hand was raised, was why we coach the sport of wrestling. There is absolutely no better feeling!

Effects of Excellence in Education Endures

The Ohio Athletic Conference announced the Fall Academic Team today (December 4th) and on the exclusive list of 187 student athletes was our own Bonnie Grace ('10).  She carried a 3.94 GPA in Education while playing for the Wilmington Quakers Womens' Soccer Team where she and another Wyoming alum', Jen Marck ('10), are starting defenders.  So now I guess the gauntlet has been thrown down.  What will younger sister, Lily Grace ('12), a freshman on the Otterbein University Soccer Team, do to top that before Bonnie rubs it in in front of the whole family during the holiday season?

Wyoming Swimming Successful at Mason Invitational

The Wyoming Swim Team had a strong showing at the Mason Invitational this past weekend. This invitational offers the first prelim/finals type of competition of the high school season and is attended by many D-1 programs including St. X. In all, 25 teams with over 600 swimmers competed. The men finished 7th and the women finished 6th. Highlights for Wyoming included several students qualifying to compete at Finals: Sean Gray (10) and Jonah Engelhardt (14) in the 200 free; Sara Washienko (3) and Sam Edwards (15) in 50 Free; Claire Crawford (15) in 100 Fly; Camille Wilson (8), Sarah LeBuhn (9) and Sam Edwards (16) in 100 Free; Cambray Smith (6), Isabelle Andersen (12), Jonah Engelhardt (8) and Abe Wickstrom (15) in 500 Free. The Women's 200 yd Free Relay (Washienko, Bailey Skidmore, LeBuhn and Wilson) placed 5th. The Men's 200 yd Free Relay (Edwards, Blake Wicksrom, Gray and David Weinrich) placed 6th. Sean Gray (14) in 100 Back; Bailey Skidmore (11), Sami Abel (13), Becky Denson (16), David Weinrich (8) and Noah Hamilton (16) placed in 100 Breast. Wyoming is back in the water with a full squad on Tuesday, Dec. 4th at 3:45 pm at PCY. They will be competing against Madeira and Finneytown. Full results can be found here.

Wyoming Free Relay - William Jordan, Nicholas Denson, Cammy Miller, and Carson Burt.

Wyoming swimmers Carson Burt and William Jordan both had 2 individual wins and were on winning Medley and Freestyle Relays.

Also many swimmers and Divers contributed with 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishes.  These points were significant in the Wyoming Middle School Cowfish beating rival Mason Middle School.  Our next swim/dive meet is Sat.Dec.15th 3:00 at our home pool Powell Crosley YMCA.
