Boys 3rd, Girls 9th at Southwest Ohio District (Swimming) Classic

The Southwest Ohio District Classic is the one of the largest and most competitive meets in the state. It is especially challenging for a team like Wyoming, because 3000 swimmers from 110 Division I and II teams all compete together. Our Boys' Team finished 3rd (same as last year) behind St. Xavier and Centerville and our Girls' Team finished 9th (up from last year's 11th place finish).


For the Girls, Celia Oberholzer (3rd - 100 Back, 12th 200 Back), Mariah Akinbi (8th - 100 Breast) and Rachel Theiler (12th - 100 Breast) qualified for finals. All four relays returned for finals. The 200 medley relay (Oberholzer, Akinbi, Theiler, A Gibbons) was 5th, the 400 medley relay (Oberholzer, Akinbi, Theiler, S Gibbons) 7th, the 200 free relay (Theiler, LeBuhn, A Gibbons, Oberholzer) 8th and the 400 free relay (Theiler, LeBuhn, S Gibbons, Oberholzer) finished 14th.

For the Boys, 5 boys qualified for an individual event at Finals. Top scorer was AJ Burt (5th - 200 Breast; 6th - 100 Breast; 8th - 200 Free; 15th - 200 IM), followed by Eric Lethander (3rd - 100 Fly; 10th - 200 IM), Pat Dierker (8th - 100 Free; 9th - 50 Free) and Owen Dunbar (12th - 100 Free). Freshman Jonathan Rutter made an impressive debut in his first Classic (7th - 200 Breast; 8th - 100 Breast).

The relay team of Owen Dunbar, AJ Burt, Pat Dierker and Eric Lethander placed 3rd in the 200 Free Relay, the 400 Free Relay and the 200 Medley Relay. They were 4th in the 400 Medley Relay. The relays were very exciting to watch and Pat is to be admired for continuing to swim after he broke his thumb during his finish on the 200 Medley Relay Sunday evening. He still put up a great split in the 400 Free Relay! The free relays will be very exciting to watch at state this year.

Senior Kyle Seyfried has committed to play football at the University of Dayton.

UD is coming off of a 10-1 season.

Boys' basketball team wins squeaker vs. Deer Park

The boys' basketball team improved its record to 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the CHL with a 48-47 victory at Deer Park on Saturday night.

The teams went to half tied at 20.  The paths diverged in the second half as we outscored DP 16-4 in the third and they us 23-12 in the fourth.

Tony Davis posted another double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds.  Eric Price wasn't far behind with 14 and eight, plus he had six blocks.  Chris Campbell had six steals.

Wrestlers perform well at Sycamore Invitational

The Wyoming Wrestling team wrestled in the Sycamore Invitational this past weekend; with no seeded wrestlers Wyoming placed 6 wrestlers and finished 8th.
The wrestlers who placed were as follows:

125 Corbin Guggenheim: 5th Place
130 Mikey Gonzalez: 4th Place
140 Daniel Zimmerman: 6th Place
160 Alour Nyamor: 6th Place
171 Michael Sagan: 6th Place
285 Adam Blum: Champion
Also, (juniors) Corbin Guggenheim and Mikey Gonzalez each recorded their 50th career victory during the tournament . Adam Blum (junior) will earn his 50th win at the Wyoming Duals this upcoming Saturday.

Next up: Wyoming duals this Saturday at 9:30.

Girls hoopsters defeat Deer Park

The girls' basketball team defeated Deer Park at home last night to improve its record to 7-2 overall, and 6-1 in the CHL.

Next up: at home Tuesday vs. Goshen, JV at 6, Varsity at 7.

You can see above that we were up 45-22 toward the end of the fourth, but unfortunately I didn't record nor can I find a final.  I can assure that we won.
UPDATE: Final was 45-22.  Nikki McKee led all scorers with 24; Hailee Schlager added 10.
