Boys Lacrosse Braced for the Braves

Jack Mariani reports from the Boys Lacrosse team:

After a long grueling week of road games, the Cowboys Men's Lacrosse team emerges 4-6 on the year with only 7 games left in the regular season. We racked up quite the fuel bill for the team buses this week, with away games at Milford, Springboro, and Oakwood.
On Monday, 4/18, we traveled to Milford and battled against a tough Division 1 Eagles squad. After being down 5-2 at one point in the 2nd quarter, we tied the game at 8 before the final frame of play, but were unfortunately bested by Milford down the stretch and suffered a 12-9 loss.
On Wednesday, 4/20, we made the trek to Springboro to face the Panthers, another D1 matchup. Here, we lost track of the game down the stretch and turned a 3-1 deficit at half time into a 12-4 loss.
Fired up after the self inflicted wounds during Wednesday's game, we came into Oakwood eager to get a W. Having lost to the Lumberjacks by 2 last season, we were definitely out for revenge as well. Lead by a defense that weathered the storm of two 3-minute non-releasable penalties, the 'Boys took it to Oakwood and walked out with an 8-3 win on Friday the 22nd.
We come off of a tough week of travel to one of, if not, our biggest game of the season against the dreaded rival Indian Hill Braves. The Braves are having a good season, sitting at 7-4, and will bring the same rivalry attitude to Bob Lewis Stadium on Monday night. The games will be at 5:30 and 7:30 at home on Monday, April 25th, and we invite the whole community to come out and take in the greatest rivalry in town. We also encourage fans to wear white and fill the stands to bring that great Wyoming home-field advantage to the lacrosse field. We hope to see you all there.

Girls Lacrosse Leads Lebanon

From Coach Crawford:

The Cowboys hosted Lebanon HS Tuesday night in both JV and Varsity matchups.  In the opening game, the JV played in a close contest going into half-time behind 2-3.  But with key saves by Goalie Olivia Grady behind a strong defensive showing and goals netted by Greta Warmbier, Ellie Marty, and Lauren Montgomery in the second half overwhelmed Lebanon as the Cowboys won, final score 10-5.  Grady finished with 6 goal saves while Marty (6), Warmbier (3), and Montgomery (1) combined for the Cowboys' 10 goals.  A strong Draw Control showing was lead by Riley Bahr (4) and Marty (4) with Warmbier (1) compared to Lebanon's total team draw control count with 4.

In the Varsity game, the Cowboys found themselves out in front quickly in the first five minutes of the game leading 5-0.  Final score, 15-2.  Goalie Claire Mellott recorded 5 saves behind a strong defense that shut down Lebanon's dodging and set plays.  Goals were scored by Reilly Simmons (4), Marielle Smith (3), Ashley Moher (3), Lindsay Stewart (2), Annie Boster (1), Madelyn Taylor (1), and Elizabeth Hughes (1).  Assists were lead by M. Smith (4) followed by Libby Wadds (2), R. Simmons (1), and Haley Stewart (1).

Softball Swinging

Lisa Golden wraps up the week that was for the Softball team:

This past week the Wyoming softball team went 3-1, with the loss of another heartbreaker: bottom seventh, two out surrender of the winning runs to a league opponent.  The week started off on a positive note with a 14-7 victory over Norwood.  The Cowboys scored in every inning against Norwood, and although the score appeared close going into the bottom of the fifth, the Cowgirls scored three and five runs in the next two at bats to put the game away.  Every Wyoming player also either scored, or had an RBI.  Wyoming also played two games against a Mariemont team that is in a building time; and although Mariemont is part of the CHL, these games are not considered league games.  The key game of the week was at Taylor.  The Wyoming bats took a while to emerge, and the Cowboys were down 3-0 entering the 6th inning.  The defense was solid, and although one miscue allowed two runs to score, several hard hit balls were tracked down for outs, and Skylar Wolski threw one base runner out trying to steal.  Shelby Fritz continued an errorless season with three catches in right field.  In the sixth, Reagan singled (one of three hits on the day), and a mis-play by Taylor’s right fielder put Raymer at third with one out.  Reagan came home on a wild pitch to give Wyoming their first run.  Down 3-1, the Cowboys made their move in the top of the seventh scoring Reily Boss on an error, then Jacquemin scored the tying run on a ground out by Michaela, and a double by Raymer scored the two seniors: Juergens and Golden.  Jacquemin had a nice day at the plate, getting two hits, and reaching base all three times.  Unfortunately, Taylor scored three times in the bottom of the seventh, with the last run scoring on a very close force play at second that could have sent the game into extra innings (final 6-5).  Next week, the Cowboys host Taylor, have two games against Madeira, and host Finneytown on Friday.  A non-league game at Roger Bacon on Thursday completes the full week.
Thanks to Lisa Golden for the report.
