Good Job, Grasshopper.

The Matmen traveled to Madeira for the 45th Madeira Invitational this weekend. Noah Pitman and Asa Palmer led the way with 4th place finishes. Asa moved passed Coach Pitman on the win list as well. Palmer is now at 83 career victories. He also moved in 5th all-time with consecutive wins in a single season with 18.

Pitman worked his way to the consolation finals after a disappointing second round loss. Pitman earned his 40th career victory with a pin over his opponent from Hughes..

Next up for the Cowboys is they're Tri-match against Hamilton Badin and Northwest High School on Tuesday. They are at home on Saturday at the annual Wyoming Duals. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m. at the high school.

The CHL Cross-Face

There's a great article at Cincinnati.com from Scott Springer about Wyoming's Wrestling team.  Check it out HERE.

Now that Mr. Springer has done the hard work, what we need are some images of the team.  Cell phone group-selfies, wave-in-air Polaroids, heck, at this point I'd even settle for stick figure drawings.  Let's get these athletes off the mat and out in the spotlight.

Starting Off the New Year Right

Wednesday, January 7th, the Girls Basketball team jumped back into action.  They started the new year off with an exciting win on the road at Indian Hill.  Reports indicate that down by 8 at one point, they came back in a big way to win by 2 at 41-39.
I got this report - you got next when our Cowboys (#3 in the CHL) will host Mariemont (#2 in the CHL) on Saturday, January 10th at 1:30.  So cheer hard, but save a little strength to string together a few sentences to tell us all about how we whipped up on the Warriors.

Thanks to Arch Cunningham for the sweet pictures.

Pair of Deuces

Coach Wolkoff sent in the good word from the Dive meet at UC on Wednesday, January 7th.

For the Girls, Sammi Campbell earned 2nd and Vera Bostwick took 8th.  For the Boys, Charlie Donnelly grabbed 2nd followed not far behind by Will Courtney in 6th.

The Split

The Wyoming Matmen split their matches Wednesday, January 8th by losing to Williamsburg and beating Greenon. Asa Palmer continued his dominance by securing his 17th win of the season. Asa now has won 16 consecutive matches. The wrestling team travels to Madeira on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Madeira Invitational.

Thanks to Coach Pitman for the report.

Wyoming Trumps Taylor

Bill Ries reported from the Tuesday, January 6th Boys Basketball 54-51 win at Taylor.

Another typically close game between Wyoming and Taylor, particularly at the end.
But ever hustling Mason Rogers, having his finest game this year, had a couple of key steals in
quarter #4 that counted heavily in this three point Wyoming win.

Down the stretch, it went like this:
:44 left Wyoming up 51-49. Wyoming turns the ball over on an errant pass.
:36 left Same score. Taylor calls time out but loses the inbound pass to Mason.
:32 left Wyoming up 52-49 Mason makes 1 of 2 at the free throw line.
:23 left Wyoming up 52-51 Taylor makes 2 free throws.
:14 left Wyoming up 54-51 On a beautiful feed from Jake Edmonds to Walker Lewis.
:06 left Same score Taylor misses a long 3 pointer but gets the rebound.
:02 left Same score Taylor badly misses from the side as Wyoming’s defense prevents them from getting a decent shot.

It was another team win as coach Tim Edmonds gave 7 players about the same playing time.
No one in serious foul trouble, so he could substitute freely and did so the entire second half.
The game was tied at half, 22-22. Wyoming was ahead 38-36 entering the final quarter. Always
less than a 4 point spread the final half and an exciting game for both spectators and players.
Rebounds were about even with Wyoming garnering 24 to Taylor’s 22. Lewis got a third of
them, followed by Lonnie Grayson and Hudson Rogers (4 each).

But turnovers proved to be a decisive factor in the end. Taylor had 17. Wyoming only 7.
Point wise, it was Grayson with 19 and an extremely important 3 pointer late in the 4th quarter,
and Mason Rogers with 15, his high for the season. Mason’s successful drives to the basket
under great pressure were key near the end. Garyn Prater, who is getting more playing time
each contest, added 10, also his high this year. He also had a key 3 pointer in the final quarter.
For Taylor, 5’9” shifty guard Zack Fulton led the way with 18. Another senior, Nick Koehne was
close behind with 14. Look for another close one when Taylor visits here February 3rd.

Thanks to Bill Ries for the report.
Both Wyoming and Indian Hill are both undefeated in the CHL.  The same can't be said after Friday, January 9th when the two meet at Indian Hill at 7:30.  Let's turn loose the Crazies and fill the stands.

Indians Stroke Out Against the Cowboys

Tuesday, January 6th, the Cowboys and Cincinnati Country Day Indians inaugurated the Powell Crosley YMCA outdoor "Bubble".  The first swim meet to be held inside the Bubble went to the Cowboys with a score of 209.5 to the Indians even 100.  Total victory may not have ever been in doubt, but there were a couple of big split-second victories to keep things exciting.  Lydia Kurtz won the 200 IM by 0.16 seconds, and Lia Thomas won the 100 Free by 0.28 seconds.  The Divers meet was at UC on Wednesday, January 8th.  We'll hopefully have some results to share soon.
