It may seem like the offseason, but…read on:

The Cincinnati U19 and U16 boys teams excelled at the recent national championships, and for the first time ever, Wyoming had two players on the team.  

Rising junior Joe White played on the U19 team, which finished second in the national tournament this weekend.  The 9th seeded Cincinnati team, Flying Pig, went undefeated in pool play on Saturday, and then on Sunday in the championship bracket knocked off 8th seeded Pittsburg, second seeded Seattle, and 7th seeded Boston before falling to North Carolina in the final.  This is the highest finish ever for a Cincinnati boys team, a select team made up of players from multiple schools in the area.  Joe caught goals in three of the four games in the championship bracket, and had a key interception to fuel the win over Boston in the semis.

Rising sophomore Arthur Cilley was on the boys U16 team, the Flying Piglets, which finished 6th in the U16 division of the national championships.

Arthur and Joe will be leaders of Wyoming’s 2015 team, the Jackrabbits.

This was quite an exciting day!

Girls Soccer Starting Strong

Kara Pendery reported from the Girls Soccer teams and their recent scrimmages.

On, Wednesday Aug 6th, the Girls Varsity Soccer team beat Sycamore 2 - 1, with goals by Casey Jervier and Kayla Hampton.  JV tied Sycamore 0 - 0.
On, Saturday Aug 9th, the Varsity beat New Richmond 1 - 0, with a goal by Kayla Hampton.  The JV lost to New Richmond 2 - 0.  Jeff King was kind enough to announce at the Varsity scrimmage and the new scoreboard was lit for the first time for the ladies.

Coming up, this Tuesday, 8/12, Wyoming v CHCA, at home.  JV plays at 5:30 and Varsity plays at 7.  Monday, 8/18, Wyoming v Roger Bacon, at home.  JV plays at 5:30 and Varsity plays at 7.

Some of us can be easily distracted by bright shiny things.  Our eyes may have glazed over a little but after we read Kara's news of the team's great start.  It would have been easy for us to miss the other good news.  

The remaining scrimmages are here at home.  

Come out and cheer the team on to a great beginning.

Soccer Scrimmage Success

Deb Varland reported for the Boys Soccer team.

Thursday we played our first scrimmage game against Monroe at home. We looked good, had several opportunities to put something in the net and on the new score board. Unfortunately tied 0-0.

The boys played again yesterday (Saturday, August 9th) at Hamilton HS in a preseason scrimmage tourney. The boys again looked good had even more scoring opportunities! We won 2-0.

Kids are having fun and are excited to get this season started!

A Cross Country Spree

Action and excitement can be hard to come by in Glenwood Gardens.  So on Saturday, August 9th, when a large gang of teenagers was seen running through the park, the Rangers were quick to jump into action.  When the clarion call to action was heard, the proud men and women in forest green and tan were found unwilling to allow one of Hamilton County's gems to decline into a lawlessness reminiscent of a 1980's Central Park.  It's a good thing Coach Glendenning is as quick on his feet as his team, or his only place to run for the next 3 to 5 would be in the Yard.

Of course, it wasn't a rampant run, it was the Cross County Alumni Race and Time Trials.  And, of course, there wasn't any trouble for or from Coach Glendenning or the Fuzz.  That was all made up because I get paid by the word and I'm looking start some home renovations this Fall.

The Girls Varsity Tennis team hosted a State Team Match against Oakwood on Thursday, August 8th. While the team didn't win, they did get a solid second place.

Podium Premier

Coach Sheehan reported from Thursday's Girls Varsity Golf glory.

The Varsity girls golf team opened the season with an 18-hole tournament in Fairfield on 8/7  that included seven division II teams. Our girls finished third shooting a very respectable 364. Last year's team had a 460 total so this years team showing much improvement.  Top scorers were Senior Sam Pease-83, Sophomore Elizabeth Hughes-88, Sophomore Lucy Walton-93, Junior Madeline Juergens-97, Junior Reilly Simmons-97.

The Drive to Succeed

Super Saturday is just around the corner and we need your help to drive!

The Wyoming Athletic Boosters Association is asking for your help with our Super Saturday event scheduled for Saturday, August 16^th. Once again this year we need parents to drive our athletes throughout our neighborhoods to collect donations and Super Booster memberships. 

Super Saturday is the only major fund raising event for the athletic program during the school year.  Roughly fifty percent of the athletic department’s budget comes from the boosters.  It has been a tradition for nearly 50 years to send our athletes out into our neighborhoods seeking donations! 

On Saturday, August 16th at 9:45 a.m., the day will begin with a quick meeting for the drivers and an introduction from our Athletic Director, Jan Wilking, in the Wyoming High School cafeteria.  The driver’s responsibilities will be to remain on the assigned route to supervise and ensure the safety of our athletes, keep track of their progress and encourage complete coverage.  When finished they are to return the monies collected and any materials in the large envelopes to the teachers’ lounge near the cafeteria. Pizza will be served for all our drivers and athletes.  You should be completed no later then 12:00 noon.

It Begins-ish

The Boys Soccer team takes the field TONIGHT, August 8th, for a scrimmage against Taylor.  JV starts at 5 and Varsity plays at 7.  I'm not, as they say, on the ball.  I miss a lot, so maybe I'm wrong, but is this the first official, unofficial game of the new season to be played at home on the Bernie Barre Field at Bob Lewis Stadium with the new super-sleek scoreboard?

No, the rumors aren't true.  Despite the nearly perennial Wyoming wins, the CHL All Sports trophy isn't being renamed the Cowboy Cup.  Did you know that the other teams we compete against are real teams - they're aren't just local incarnations of the Washington Generals.  With the Fall sports season just a few weeks away, let's take a fake page from the Sesame Street playbook and learn about who are the people in our neighborhood... or more like the people in our surrounding neighborhoods.  The CHL website has a series of articles with information about the communities in the league.  Check it out HERE
