Ultimate Out of the Gate

From Coach George White,

The Wyoming Ultimate team is back in action, looking to defend the league championship won in an undefeated 2013 season.  Known as the Jackrabbits and now in its 15th year as a club, the 2014 club again has almost 50 players, and is fielding a Varsity and Reserve team in the B division of the 30-team co-ed Cincinnati High School league.

The varsity bounced back from a tough one point loss to Walnut Hills to square its record at 1-1 with a 9-7 win over Sycamore on a very windy and cold day at Oak Park.  The Jackrabbits were paced by the four scoring catches of senior Alex Kellner and four scoring throws of senior Sam White, and two scoring throws and one goal catch by sophomore Jaden Shapiro.  Sophomores Joe White and Maddie Henke connected for the only upwind goal of the game.  The Reserve team, led by sophomores Quin Wolfer (three scoring throws and one catch) and Max Brady (three scoring catches)  dropped a tough 8-7 game to St. X/Ursuline, in which every goal was scored downwind.

The Jackrabbits varsity returns to action this Sunday at 1 at Oak Park against Clark Montessori.

Ready, Set, Go

From Coach Crawford,

Both the JV and Varsity Girls Lax squads had a strong showing against Walnut Hills on Saturday to close out pre-season play.  This Saturday (March 22nd) marks the 2014 season opener against Springboro at Home beginning with the JV game at 1:00 PM and the Varsity game at 2:30.

First Team All American

Coach Knickel filled us in on Emily Stites ('12), who finished 6th in the 5000m at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships for William and Mary.  The finish earned her First Team All-American (her third All-American).

For more details, check out the Jacob Skipper article on the Tribe's website HERE

With the outdoor season starting in a couple of weeks, look for more updates from Coach Knickel.

And Now We Know

We were all in shock and we wondered how it happened.  How did the Boys Basketball team come to lose in the District Championship game?  Now we know.  One lone Crazie didn't get the tweet or text and showed up NOT in his assigned color.  I think we've all learned a valuable lesson about how important it is to spend at least six hours a day on social media.  Before you fire up your thumbs and start logging those hours, check out some shots of our Cowboys at the game.  They are the ones wearing white... all of them.
Thanks again to Rod Apfelbeck for these and all of the great Basketball photos this season.

An Image Of An All-Ohioan

In case you missed it yesterday, Max Hoffman became Wyoming High’s first ever Indoor All-Ohioan, placing 7th in the 3200m run at the OATCCC State Indoor Championships, Saturday night at the University of Akron.  Max’s time was a very impressive 9:54.63.

Since the link to the results is now broken, I will now substitute it with the above picture from Coach Glendenning.

Thanks to Coach Glendenning for the picture and Coach Knickel for the news.

E

I posted about the Baseball team's fundraiser Going Yard the other day.  It wasn't your ordinary post; it was also an eye-test.  We've been trying to identify those in our community with super-human electron-microscope type vision.  Some of you have passed and will be contacted shortly by nondescript men in dark sunglasses.  For those of us who didn't eat all of our carrots as kids, I have attached the flyer HERE so you can download it and view it at whatever scale is appropriate.   Of course, seeing infinitesimally small  details is a great power to have.  Even better is being able to see the big picture - the picture where even if you're completely capable of doing some of this yard work yourself you still give a group of young men the opportunity to work to earn (as opposed to asking for or just expecting) funds for their team.
