Cowboys Care

Blue Ash resident Richard Gabbour, a physically challenged runner who competes in Cincinnati area races, completed the 10K portion of the Run for the Kids sponsored by Wyoming Youth Services on October 5, 2013, in 2 hours, 27 minutes. Richard was accompanied during the race by two outstanding Wyoming High School athletes, Adi Smith and Danielle McKee, who volunteered to be his companion runners.
Thanks to Laura Bence for sending us the good word and great pictures.

Second Serving of Senior Night Socer

Yes, Virginia, we did already post about the Boys' Senior Night soccer game blow-out against Reading.  But we just got in a new crop of pictures (pun intended).
It's like getting that birthday card with 10 bucks from your eccentric uncle 3 months after your birthday.

Make sure you turn out for the Sectional Tournament game here at home on Wednesday, October 16th at 7:00.  Cheer on our Seniors and help keep the season going.

Thanks to Rod Apfelbeck for getting these great shots.

This Week in The TCP

I'm a Gen X'er, so I guess my slackerness comes naturally.  I know it's been awhile since I've actually posted about our athletes getting highlighted in the Tri-County Press.  I figured I better get on the ball after my paperboy stared me down on Wednesday.
This week in the Tri-County Press there was a great article about the Boys' Soccer team and their post-season plans.  Pictured in the article were Nolan Prevish, Ryan and Andrew Derge, and Toby Varland.
You will also find a picture of the Seniors of the Girls' Soccer team from their 4-0 crushing of Deer Park on October 2nd.
There was also a write-up for the Football team's steamrolling of Taylor, including a picture of Terrell Dailey and a link to see video of Will Marty after the game.
And there were also write-ups from the Cross Country teams' showing at the St. X Invitational, the Boys' Golf finish at the District Tournament, the Boys' Soccer team's blowout against Deer Park, and the Girls' Volleyball team's wins over Taylor, Indian Hill, and Mariemont.

Super Win on Senior Night

It was a night made for the seniors at Oct. 8th's Reading game, but it was a freshman who ensured the win.
The Wyoming boys senior soccer players all took the field at the start of the Reading game Tuesday (October 8th) for one of their last regular season games under a beautiful, clear evening sky.  A packed crowd cheered the Cowboys as they dominated their opponent with skilled passing and several shots on goal throughout the first half.  Despite their efforts, they ended the first half with no score on the board.

It was the second half where the Cowboys put the ball in the goal, thanks to some help from their younger teammate, freshman Andrew Derge.  At the 22 minute mark in the second half, Andrew scored, followed by a second goal only 2 minutes later.  Andrew sealed the win with a third goal late in the game, all with the help of skilled passing from his teammates, shutting out Reading with a score of 3-0.
The senior boys and their parents were honored at halftime.  This year's seniors are Lucas Corbier, Logan Draper, Ryan Derge, Ben Fershtman, Jared Heidotting, Tyler Hill, Matthew Lethander, Nolan Prevish, Chris Viens, Drew Wayman.
Thanks to Ms. Prevish for the report, and
Thanks to Deb Varland for the sweet pictures.

Downed By McNick

Tuesday, October 8th, the Girls' Varsity Soccer team fell to McNick.  I've seen conflicting reports on the score.  0-2 if you believe the Cincinnati Hills League site, or 1-2 if you're a Cincinnati.com follower.
Not to despair, though.  The Girls will finish the regular season in the top-half of the CHL.
And I won't say anything if you won't.  I'd hate to see Ms. Klug get in trouble with the State Dental Board for unlicensed practice.

Thanks to Deb Varland for the great pictures.

A Shout Out for the Shut-Out

Bob Carter sent us the following report from the Boys JV Soccer team's game against Reading.

It was a great day for soccer when the Boys JV team took on the Reading Blue Devils on Tuesday (10/8).
The team kept the pressure on Reading from the opening whistle, taking 10+ shots on goal in the first half, and scoring two times. At the half, the Cowboys were up 2-0. In the second half, the Cowboys continued to play with intensity and kept the ball on the Reading half of the field for most of the time – and converted 3 more times, while the defense combined to preserve the shut out. At the closing whistle, the Boys JV soccer team won 5-0!

The final Boys JV Soccer home game is on Thursday at 5pm – come out and cheer them on!
Thanks to Bob Carter for spreading the good news and sending in the great pictures.
