Senior Night Success

Wednesday, October 2nd, was Senior Night for the Girls' Soccer team.  To commemorate the event, they defeated Deer Park 4-0.  They are now 3-2-1 in CHL play.  The girls haven't lost for three straight games now.  Come out and help keep the streak alive as they host Seven Hills at 3PM on Saturday, October 5th.

Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are

Saturday, October 12th is the CHL Cross Country meet at Sharon Woods. 

 

The following is from MS Coach, Randy Nocks

 

This is our main meet. It is also our smallest. We will be competing against just the league schools and it is for bragging rights to see who wins the CHL. We would love to have as many spectators cheering the runners on as possible, so parents come out to the meet and bring siblings, friends, neighbors, whomever you want to help cheer on the team.

 

I'm with the coach on this one.  The sidelines should look something like this...

 

Race Times:

9:00: MS Girls

9:30: MS Boys

10:25: MS Awards

10:10: HS Girls Open

10:50: HS Boys Open

11:30: HS Girls Team Race

12:15: HS Boys Team Race

1:00: HS Awards

And if you don't bleed Blue and White, and just a fair-weather fan... it's okay.  There promises to be something for you too.  Last weekend, the Boys' HS team took the top spot at the St. X meet, and on Thursday, October 3rd, the Girls' MS team blew past all comers at the Harrison meet, with many of the girls' earnig medals. 

 

The teams are having a great season.  Come out and show your support.

Congratulations Wyoming Athlete of the Week,
Kayla Hampton!
 

Congratulations to freshman soccer player Kayla Hampton for student athlete of the week for girls soccer.  This week alone she has scored 4 goals and recorded 2 assists against Edgewood and Deer Park. She notched her first career hat trick and also is in the top 5 in scoring in the CHL. She leads the team in both goals scored (9) and assists (4). We look forward to 3 more years of Kayla leading our soccer program! 

The Wyoming Boosters' Gabby's Athlete of the Week award is sponsored by Gabby's Cafe.

For being named Student Athlete of the Week, Kayla will receive a $10 gift certificate to Gabby's.

Senior Night for the CHL Slayers

Tuesday, October 8th is Senior Night for the Volleyball team.  The team would love to get a good crowd there for the game vs. Deer Park. To date, since their freshman year in 2010, this group of seniors have gone undefeated in CHL play. With 3 matches left, they are looking for a 4-peat as CHL champs!!

With his 2.5 sacks and 10 Tackles, and who could forget the 85 yard TD, Senior, Griffin O'Gara is nominated for the WCPO player of the Week.  He's currently in 2nd place behind an Anderson player.

Cross-Dressing for a Cure?

Deb Varland recapped the Soccer family's cancer fundraiser on Sunday, September 29th.

Thank you for all the support for Sunday’s Kick for A Cure fundraiser. The weather mostly cooperated and everyone who attended seemed to have a great time! It was awesome seeing all the kids gathered on the field together!

We still have large and extra large shirts available that we will be selling at the last few girls and boys home games as well as the cupcakes so we don’t have a final $$ number yet. However, I'm pretty sure we will surpass last year’s successful effort. Great job!

Thank you to everyone who helped grill, bake, sell shirts, organize, referee, etc. etc. etc. And thank you to the boys’ soccer team and their parents who were a huge help!

A Three Hour Tour

Carol Leish wanted to send "A HUGE THANK YOU to an incredible group of trusty workers who plowed through the crowds by serving for three solid hours during the Homecoming Game on Friday.  Unfortunately it was so busy that night that picture taking was forgotten.  Thank you to Chris Schneider who managed to keep the popcorn popping and to fill those annoying bags; Misty Maxwell, Kelly and Scott Clark, Trista Jones Manigault, Heather Kripal, Lynn Larson and Pam Coyle-Toerner who served customers non-stop with a smile (well, usually); Jenny Schneider, Melissa Kadish, Bob Walker and Phoebe Brown-Klug who wrapped those dogs and burgers as well as passed the pizza slices and Chick-Fil-A’s.  Of course, thank you also to our trusty griller crew, Paul Klug, Doug Krekeler, Skip Koesterman and Jim Leish who kept the coals fired up and the burgers and dogs grilled to perfection!  Doug Krekeler even went back on Sunday to repair the wobbly gas grill.  Now that is dedication and kindness!  If you know any of these volunteers, please take a moment to thank them for their hard and exhausting work."

The Great Eight

Tuesday, October 1st, the Boys' Varsity Soccer team demolished Deer Park and Jen Hays passed on the following good word.

 

The Wyoming Men’s Varsity soccer team pounded Deer Park last night.  The game saw goals from Toby Varland (2 goals), Ivan Meisner (1 goal), Andrew Derge (2 goals) and Ryan Derge (3 goals).  Deer Park did happen to get 1 ball in the net in the second half. However, Cowboys were WAY victorious with a final score of Wyoming 8 – Deer Park 1.

 

Next game is Saturday, at Seven Hills High School.  JV plays at 5:00 pm.  Varsity plays at 7:00.

Sometimes Your Up

Bob Carter sent in the following report from the Boys JV Soccer teams week.

The Boys JV soccer team split a pair of  matches this week.

On Monday (9/30), the Cowboys took on big D1 power St. Xavier (away). While the Cowboys got on the board first, St. X kept the pressure on and, by the middle of the second half, St. X was up 3-1.  But the JV team kept their composure and closed the gap to be down only one goal with a couple of minutes left.  The team took several shots on goal in the closing minute of the game but, unfortunately, the game ended with a Cowboy loss of 3-2.

 

The following day (10/1), the Boys JV soccer team traveled to Deer Park to take on the Wildcats. The team certainly bounced back from their loss the day before by going up 2-0 at the half. The Cowboys kept at it and scored 5 more goals in the second half, for a final winning score of 7-0.  (A tip of the hat to Deer Park: their team played with only two subs, so their boys played almost the entire time without rest.)

 

Next up: the Boys JV soccer team plays Seven Hills (away) on Saturday (10/5).

V for Victory, W for Wyoming at X for Xavier

Coach Glendenning filled us in on the High School Cross Country team's great weekend at the St. X Invitational meet on Saturday, September 28th.

We had a great day of races.  The girls started it off with one of their best performances of the season, finishing 5th among 19 schools.  Katie Spray finished 10th overall in a time of 21:02, leading our team.  The boys followed with a team victory.  Ben Stites was 2nd and Ian Goertzen 6th--both earning appearances on the medal podium.  The entire team received their trophy from 2012 800m Olympian Duane Solomon.  We are off from competition this weekend and return to action on 10/12 at the CHL meet at Sharon Woods.
