Taylor Tanked

Tuesday, September 3rd, The Varsity Volleyball team took Taylor in three sets.
25-4, 25-14, 25-15
The scores are nice to read, and the pictures are awesome.  Wouldn't it be great if we knew what happened after this shot?  If you or someone you love is on the Volleyball team, consider sending us the good word after the game.

Girls Skin the 'Cats

No, This not a repeat...
On Tuesday, September 3rd, The Girls' Varsity Soccer team hosted Finneytown.  They were at least the third Cowboy soccer team to blank the Wildcats 4-0 that day.  How cool is that?  Kayla Hampton was first to score and on a corner kick! Carly Varland had a nice shot from outside the box for a goal (after beating a few defenders), Kelsey Brunsman had a goal and  Kayla knocked in one more to round out the scoring.

Varsity Vanquishes Not-So-Wildcats

With the way the Boys' Varsity Soccer team is playing, Jen Hays can't help but report good news.

The Wyoming Men’s Varsity soccer team played at Finneytown last night coming away with a huge win.  Toby Varland started the ball rolling with a nice clean shot that slipped right through the goalies hands.  Game play stayed pretty even until Finneytown was called for a penalty in the box, giving Ryan Derge the opportunity to score goal number two on a penalty kick.  Jay Klein had a beautiful run, with the shot deflected by the goalie, but picked up by Andrew Derge scoring goal number three.  Andy Rengli had an amazing header which he flicked right to Andrew Derge giving him score number four.  Final score was Wyoming 4 – Finneytown 0.  Congratulations also to goalie Marshall Hays on his first shut out of the season!

Way to Go Cowboys!
Next game is Saturday, September 7th at Home against Talawanda.  JV plays at 1:00.  Varsity plays at 3:00. Come on out and cheer them on!

Thanks to Deb Varland for the pictures.

JV Whomps the Wildcats

Bob Carter passed on the following report from the Boys' JV Soccer match at Finneytown.

On a beautiful Tuesday afternoon (9/3), the Wyoming JV soccer team went on the road (actually just up Compton Road) to take on the Finneytown Wildcats.  The offense started putting pressure on the opposing goal almost from the opening whistle. They finally converted with a goal about mid-way through the first half. And, the offense kept up the pressure taking at least 15 shots on goal, and scoring three more times – the last goal in the final 60 seconds of the half. The Cowboys were up at the half by a score of 4-0. In the second half, Finneytown found their rhythm and threatened to score several times. However, the goalie and the defense teamed up to preserve the shutout, as the JV soccer team went on to win 4-0.

This brings the JV record to 4-1-1. Next up is Talawanda at home at Saturday (9/7).
Thanks to Bob Carter for the report and great pictures

Finally, Fluent Football Features

If you've ever wondered how I got this job writing for the Round-Up, you're not alone.  I'm not native to Sports and do not speak the language fluently.  So in an effort to not re-invent the wheel every week with the limited skill set I have, Jack Mariani, the author of the Wyoming Sports Report (check it out HERE) has agreed to let the Round-Up post his report.

Wyoming Sports Report

In the first game of the new season, the Cowboys came out to their home crowd on newly christened Bernie Barre Field and pummeled the Aiken Falcons 49-0.

This game was run and gun offense for the Cowboys, who scored 43 of their points in the first quarter, before the starters were relieved by the JV team.

Leading the team in offensive stats was Senior Running Back Terrell Dailey, who amassed 105 total yards in one quarter, and accounted for 5 touchdowns for the Cowboys. Quarterback Will Marty also played well in his limited playing time, throwing a perfect 5/5 for 129 yards and 2 TDs.

This game was completely controlled by the Cowboys varsity from start to finish, with a two play touchdown drive to start the game. The offense clicked on all cylinders, from Dailey’s dominant rushing to the smooth passing offense commanded by Marty. “We really executed the game plan Coach Hancock put out for us,” Marty told me. “As a team, when you do that it’s a lot of fun.”

Marty's big target on Friday was Junior WR Duke Brunke, who caught 2 passes for 84 yards and a TD, including the 63 yard reception on the first play of the game. Wyoming finished the game with 305 yards of total offense, and even added a score on the defensive side when the Falcons QB chased a botched snap into the endzone was tackled by LB Casey Howell for a safety.

If nothing else, this game was a great confidence builder for the Cowboys as they enter what could possibly be their hardest game of the year. They take on the Turpin Spartans (0-1) next Friday, who have beaten Wyoming the past four years. Marty said that “Turpin is a great team, and we need to have a great week of practice to prepare for them. But the team is very excited to play against them”.

This team, however, is not the same Turpin team that beat the Cowboys 34-14 last year, and although this is a meeting of two playoff caliber teams, it will be interesting to see how the Cowboys will compete against a well-known opponent.
