From Heather Lethander
Last weekend, Wyoming Junior, Jonathan Rutter competed at the USA Junior Nationals Championship Meet in Knoxville, TN. Invitations to compete at this level are based on extremely fast qualifying times. The top high school aged swimmers from around the country participate.
Rutter performed very well in several of his events, achieving lifetime best times. His best swim though, took place on the final day of the competition in his personal favorite event, the 200 Breaststroke.
Rutter qualified and finished 7th in the 200 Breaststroke event. His time of 2:01.16 qualifies him for the US Open, the highest USA Swimming Meet, other than Olympic Trials, open to swimmers from around the world.
Should make for an exciting State Meet in February. Although the 200 Breaststroke is not on the competition list for HS swimming, we will be excited to see what Rutter can do in the 100 Breaststroke event at State!
Congratulations Jonathan!

The Cowboys Split St. Xavier and McAuley
From Heather Lethander
The Wyoming Swim Team split a pair of decisions to Division I teams at Keating Natatorium on Saturday, Dec. 8th. The women beat McAuley, but the men fell as expected, to St. Xavier and Covington Catholic.
The women won several events against a strong McAuley team. Junior Caroline Duke won a pair of individual events (200 Free and 100 Fly), Junior Cambray Smith won the 500 Free and Freshman Sara Washienko won the 100 Free. Both our Freestyle Relays edged out the competion. The 200 consisted of Duke, Daria Oberholzer, Allison Golden and Washienko while the 400 Relay was Duke, Sarah LeBuhn, Camille Wilson and Washienko.
The Men faced the perennial Division I State Champion and Kentucky powerhouse Covington Catholic and were unable to win a single race. The top performance of the day was a 3rd place finish in the 100 Fly by Max Chou.
The Cowboys will be facing another challenging weekend as they travel to the Canton Christmas Invitational in Canton, Ohio. Many top swimmers in Division I and II from around the state will be competing.

2nd Annual CHL Day(s)
The 2nd Annual CHL Day will be played over two days this year at the Cintas Center. The Boys' Basketball team will face Indian Hill in the second game on Friday, December 14th, which should begin around 8:30.
Presale tickets can be purchased at each league school for $10.00. One ticket is good for all four games. (The early games start at 7:00 on Friday and Saturday). Each school gets 50% of presale. Walk-up tickets will be $12.00 with the Cintas Center getting 100%.
So after you get your presale tickets from Wyoming and avoid the long walk-up lines where you'd have to pay more anyway, make sure you come out and and cheer on our boys.

7th Grade Girls Pull Ahead of Indian Hill
To prove there aren't any 7th Grade slackers, Emma Melvin is reporting to us from the Disabled List.
From Emma "The Machine" Melvin
On Monday, December 10, the 7th Grade Girls Middle School Basketball team played Indian Hill. It started out as a close game between the girls. At the end of the first quarter the score was 9:5 Wyoming. Helping to make the win happen, Lindsay Stewart scored a whopping 12 points for her team! Luckily the Cowboys were able to come out with a win and the final score was 22:14.
So far the 7th grade girls are 2 and 1. Fortunately last week, they also won at Deer Park with a final score of 31:14. Lindsay led the team with 14 points in that game.
Let’s hope for the best when our girls play again on the 12th against Taylor.
She's an athlete, She's a writer... Now if we can only get her to take pictures too...
Thanks again to Emma for the report.

Home Sweet Home
On Saturday, December 8th, the Girls' Varsity Basketball team finally came home after a long, tough road trip. They faced a Deer Park squad just as thirsty for a win, but did not play the gracious host and denied them a drink from chalice of victory. Just looking at the few stats I could find, it looks like the game got off to a slow start with the score tied at 5 all after the first quarter. Our girls' looked unstoppable during the second and third quarter where they put up double digits in each. Our defense held Deer Park to only 22 points, which is a far cry from the almost 44 they have averaged this season. Final score 36-22.
The plan of showering Coach Lackey with Gatorade was short-lived after Greg Sites was seen on the sidelines with furrowed brow.

Girls' Basketball Getting Closer
There seems to be a light at the end of a long dark tunnel for the Girls' Basketball team. On Wednesday, December 5th, the continued their long road trip in Mariemont. They lost again, but not by much; final score 31-38. The girls were out-rebounded 25-42 but had more than twice as many steals as Mariemont and led in blocks as well.
