Boys' Cross Country team finishes 12th at state

The boys' cross country team finished 12th in Division II at the Ohio High School Athletic Association state meet held Saturday at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio.

The team was just one point behind 11th place Dayton Oakwood.

Emily Stites sixth at State Cross Country Meet

Emily Stites finished sixth in the state at the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II Cross Country Championships held yesterday at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio.

In Division II, Wyoming senior Emily Stites finished sixth (18:31.91) and Indian Hill senior Elizabeth Heinbach was seventh (18:32.41) behind champion Sarra Taylor of London (18:19.14). Also finishing among the top 25 was Indian Hill sophomore Elena Horton (19th, 19:15.34).

“I was hoping to finish in the top five, but at the end of the day it was my last race and I’m happy to accomplish the things that I did,” Stites said. “I couldn’t be happier with the way I ran overall.”

Volleyball team loses to Alter

The volleyball team lost to Alter last night at Wilmington 23-25, 30-28, 25-17, 18-25, 11-15.

They end the season 26-1. 

Twenty-six is the most wins ever for a Wyoming volleyball team.

Girls' soccer head coach Kellie Siler steps down

Kellie Siler, girls' soccer head coach, has stepped down from that position.  She sent me the following:

I have truly enjoyed the past 12 years as Head coach, 14 in all. I am proud of the winning tradition and the success that the girls soccer program has experienced in those years. I have many wonderful memories of past teams and seasons and while the records and titles are memorable it's the relationships of those players that continue to bless my life and that will always remain special and most fulfilling to me.

Boys' soccer loses thriller to Carroll

In a very exciting and hard fought game, the boys' soccer team lost to Dayton Carroll last night at Centerville in the Regional semi-finals.

Neither team could score until just 3:32 remained in the game, when Carroll was able to knock in a rebound.  The game ended 1-0.

An example of how close this game was: David Weinrich shoots (below), and their keeper makes the save. BUT, at least part of the ball is in - however the ENTIRE ball has to be in for it to be a goal.  To be fair, this is not a good angle.  On the other hand, I may also not have caught the ball at its deepest pentration.  To be clear, I'm not saying it was a goal, but I am saying this is one of several times we came very close to scoring.

New course awaits local runners headed to state meet

...This is a new course for the state meet after it had been run at Scioto Downs in Columbus for the past 25 years...

Wyoming [boys] placed second in Division II to qualify for its first state meet since 2002. It was the highest regional finish in school history for the Cowboys...

Wyoming found added inspiration in Emily Stites of the girls’ team to earn the No. 11 Cowboys their berth in DII. Stites won her regional race, beating Indian Hill’s Elizabeth Heinbach for the first time in cross country in the process.

“I’ve been telling the guys from the beginning of the season that there is something special about this team and we have the potential to do something great,” said senior Seth Gold. “(Stites’) race 100 percent inspired us. We knew she’s been gunning so hard to win that race. Winning races is a rare occurrence because there are so many good runners out there. Seeing her do that gave us extra motivation.”

Directions to Wilmington HS

AD Scott Kaufman asked me to pass on these directions to Wilmington High School (300 Richardson Place, Wilmington, OH 45177), which he received from a representative of the school.  The volleyball team plays there in the regional semi-finals at 6 PM tomorrow.  Tickets are available from the AD's office.

Please enjoy the conversational voice in which the directions are written:

If you are planning on arriving to Wilmington from the west or south, you probably are planning to arrive on SR 73 from I 71.  That route will re-open on Wednesday, from about 6 weeks of a detour.  The roadway will look a little different than it has in the past to you.  As you get approximately a mile outside of Wilmington on SR 73, it will take a turn to begin a by-pass of Wilmington.  Immediately after the curve, there will be a sign, and a traffic light at Mitchell Road.  Turn right onto Mitchell Road, and go roughly 300 feet to a stop sign.  Turn left onto that road, and you will be on the old SR 73, which is called Wayne Rd.  Follow that road to the third traffic light, which is at the Clinton Memorial Hospital.  Turn left onto Farquhar St.  Go one block, turn left onto Locust St, and immediately turn right onto Richardson Place.  From this street you will drive into the parking lot.
