Catching Up with Lacrosse

Coach Crawford caught us up with the Girls Lacrosse team.

Saturday, April 11th
The Wyoming HS Girl's Lacrosse played at Home on a beautiful Saturday against Summit County Day Silver Knights.   The JV played well but lost in the end 5 to 6.  Goalie Avery Barzizza recorded 3 saves with goals scored by Madelyn Taylor (2), Ashley Moher (1), Ellen Boster (1), and Erin Broderick (1).   Caused Turnovers were led by Madelyn Taylor with 3 and Ground Balls were lead by Madelyn Taylor and Ashley Moher with 4 each.

The Varsity played a very fine game against the State's number 14 ranked girl's lacrosse team, but lost in the end 8 to 12.  The Knight's defense could not contain Reilly Simmons as she lead all scorers within the city limits with 6 goals.  Additional goals were scored by Marielle Smith (1) and Maggie Hughes (1) with each providing three assists.  Although it's the Cowboys first lost (record 4W - 1L), the team continues to dominate the ground game (16 ground balls to Summit's 12) and improve in handling the ball (7 turnovers to Summit's 12).

Monday, April 13th
The Wyoming HS Girl's Lacrosse team played a varsity contest away Monday night against the Seven Hills' Stingers.  The first 10 minutes of the game saw goal exchanges between the two teams but eventually the Cowboys were behind with a 5 to 7 score.  After a stirring discussion lead by the team seniors, the Cowboy's offense put the hammer down and went into the half on top 13 to 10.   Halftime proved only to be a pit stop as the Cowboys continued to pull away winning with a final score of 23 to 14.   Goalie Claire Mellott had a wonderful night with 6 saves in the midst of a strong defense consisting of Carly Schlager, Emma Komrska, Emily Wood, and Grace Steiner.  Maggie Hughes lead the team with goals (6), followed by Reilly Simmons (5), Haley Stewart (3), Adi Smith (2), Ashley Moher (2), Olivia Cunningham (1), Elizabeth Hughes (1), Adi Smith (1), Lindsay Stewart (1), and Emily Wadds (1).  Assists were lead by Adi Smith with 6 followed by Maggie Hughes (2),  Wadds (2), Molly Izenson (1), Cunningham (1), and Simmons (1).

Next up, the JV and Varsity squads travel Tuesday night to Springboro, JV gametime at 6pm, Varsity at 7:30.
