Boys' soccer defeats Tippecanoe 1-0 to win District Championship

As with almost all pictures on the blog, click for a full screen view.
The boys' soccer team made Nathan Meisner's first half goal off of Cory Macke's cross hold up and defeated Tippecanoe 1-0 to win the District Championship Saturday night.

Our goal:
Cory brings the ball up the right side.
Cory beats his guy so badly that he's barely still in the frame.
Cory crosses the ball.
Bodies are scattered, Todd seems happy, the Tippecanoe kid on the right is making the universal, "Oh crap, we got scored on" signal.
David and Nathan seem even happier than Todd.

I couldn't keep up with the play but I'm told that the Tippecanoe keeper got a hand on Cory's cross but couldn't control it.  Nathan was able to get to the loose ball first and put it home.

Harrison Glover had eight saves en route to the shutout.

Next up: vs. Dayton Carroll on Tuesday at 7 PM at Centerville.  Centerville High School is located at 500 E. Franklin Street, Centerville, Ohio 45459.  According to AD Scott Kaufman, this is the first time the boys' team has advanced to regionals.

Carroll defeated McNick 5-0 to advance to Tuesday's game.

Enquirer article here.
TROY, Ohio – Wyoming senior Emily Stites had never beaten fellow senior Elizabeth Heinbach of Indian Hill in cross country before. Lebanon sophomore Jacquelyn Crow hadn’t been beaten in race all season.

Both of those streaks came to an end in dramatic fashion Saturday.

Stites broke away from Heinbach over the final 200 meters of the Division II race, while Princeton senior Claudia Saunders outdueled Crow at the finish line to win the Division I race at the regional meet at Troy Memorial Stadium.

The top four teams and top 16 individuals in each race qualified for the state meet at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, outside of Columbus.

Stites and Heinbach were at the front of the pack throughout their race. They were joined briefly by Celina senior Hannah Fleck but the last mile was between the two Cincinnati Hills League runners.

Heinbach won her fourth consecutive district title last week and a third straight CHL title two weeks ago. She’ll be running in her fourth consecutive state meet next week. Heinbach is the top returning runner from last year’s meet, having placed fifth.

“We know how each other runs but towards the end I had the determination and I thought this was my race and that I could do it,” said Stites. “There is obviously always been competition but it’s been a healthy competition. She’s such a great runner and I’m just thankful I get to pace off of her. But it’s definitely nice to be first.”

Stites won in 18 minutes, 33 seconds. Heinbach finished at 18:39

Full meet results here.

Next up: Emily runs in the state Division II Cross Country Championship, next Saturday at Hebron (outside of Columbus) at the National Trail Raceway.  NTR is located at 2650 National Road SW, Hebron, Ohio 43025.  Emily runs at 11:45.  Full info here.

Football loses to Madeira

The football team lost to undefeated Madeira Friday night, 49-21.

Enquirer article (with pictures) here.  Listen - I'm not a sore loser - Madeira outplayed us.  However, look how Madeira beating us confused the Enquirer.  These quotes are all from the referenced article:
Sophomore quarterback Will Marty was 16-of-34 for 267 yards and two touchdowns for Wyoming...
Marty, the CHL’s leading passer with 1,785 yards through the first nine games, was 11-of-19 for 182 yards and a touchdown to Phillip Schuholz...

Marty also gained 64 yards on 11 carries...
Marty also gained 56 yards on six carries...

The team ends the season at 6-4, tied for second place in the CHL at 5-2.
