Cowboys Break the Mustangs

Kara Pendery reported for the Middle School Football team and the Thursday, September 18th game against Madeira.

It was another mauling in Madeira!  Wyoming football dominated Madeira both at the Middle School and High School levels this year.  Special thanks to Coach Kamerer for providing stats for the game.  We also have secret score assistants located throughout the stadium that have helped out, as well.  There has been so much scoring from the Cowboys....that it takes more than one person to keep track!  The Middle School Football team faced Madeira on Thursday 9/18 at home.

Game Highlights
Joey Edmonds threw for 2 touchdowns and rushed for 2 touchdowns.
Pierson Rogers had 1 rushing touchdown.
Moe Mitchell had 1 touchdown reception.
Evan Prater had 1 touchdown reception.

Extra points scored by Joey Edmonds(1), Pierson Rogers(2) and Moe Mitchell(1).

Fumble recovery by Hassan Black.
Interception by Sam Taylor.

Wyoming led 32 - 0 at the half.

Final score: Wyoming 38 to Madeira 0

The Cowboys' next game will be at Reading, Wednesday 10/1 at 4:30 at Reading's Veteran's Memorial football stadium.  Take W. Columbia to Left on Market St to Left on W. Pleasant (name changes to West Street at curve).  Follow to stadium parking lot.

Please come out and support the boys as it is sure to be a great game!
Thanks to Kara and Kara's Crew for the highlights and great pictures.

What's With the Bus?

Maybe it was the anxiety of playing in front of everybody's hero, WMSMC majordomo, Mr. Overby, that led to the Middle School Girls Tennis team's 5-0 defeat by Nagel  on Monday, September 22nd, because we know it wasn't a lack of heart.
Despite the loss, the girls always come ready to fight.  Susan Osha reported from the Monday, September 29th match.

The WMS tennis team took on Seven Hills on Monday, 9/29. The clock proved to be as tough any opponent.  Emily Mayer and Anya Kirsch lost hard-fought singles matches by just one game, thanks to that clock. Ella Bryan played tough, but lost on court 3 singles. The doubles teams of Jenny Lewis/Eleanor Stall and Sophie Williams/Peyton Osha each posted wins, the latter in 7-5 tiebreaker.
As if the matches weren’t exciting enough, then there was the bus ride home. Ask one of the girls to tell you about it. School buses must be taller than 9’6”.

Wyoming 2, Seven Hills 3.
Thanks to Susan Osha for the details, and reports, and pictures, and, oh yeah, the tantalizing hint at what is probably some great, hilarious story that we are all on pins and needles now waiting to hear.

Power of the Poll

Did you see our Admired Director AD, Jan Wilking's tweet about the Boy's Varsity Soccer team's ranking in the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association State Poll?  The Cowboys are sitting in 9th place.  The only other Cincinnati DII team to crack the top 10 was McNick who is holding the 6th place.

If you don't believe me, see for yourself HERE

Soccer - Not to Be Confused With Football

With a score as big as the Varsity Boys Soccer team's against Northwest, it took a team just as magnificent to bring the action home to you.  Wordsmith, Jen Hays, led the charge with Left Snapper, Deb Varland and Right Shooter, Rod Apfelbeck covering the sidelines.

The Men's Varsity Soccer Team played Northwest on Saturday (August 27).  For this report, it might be easier to report who DIDN'T score.  But, we'll stick with who did.  Andy Renggli started the "ball rolling" (no pun intended) by getting the first goal for the Cowboys in about the first 8 minutes or so. From there they just piled up.  The first half also saw goals by Jay Klein, Andrew Derge twice, and Myles Rajbhandari.  The second half went about the same.  Andrew Derge got his third goal of the game (hat-trick!).  We then also saw some exciting goals by Sam Izenson, Garreth Norris, and Nolan Morley.   Final score was Wyoming 9 - Northwest 0.

The next game for the Cowboys is an important CHL league game against Deerpark on Tuesday, Sept. 30th at HOME.  JV plays at 5:00.  Varsity plays at 7:00.

Our fans have been so great this year!  We'd like to keep that going and have you all come out to chear them on to another CHL win!  Hope to see you all there.

Go Cowboys!

The Hampton Hat Trick

Kara Pendery reported for the Girls Varsity Soccer team

Wyoming Women's soccer traveled to league rival Mariemont, on Tuesday 9/23.  Kayla scored her first of 3 goals, 15 minutes into the 1st half.  Kayla had a nice long shot from about the 20 yard line, to sink it in the net.  The Cowboys continued to play tough and went into half-time leading the Warriors 1 - 0.

The Cowboys came back from half-time ready to play.  It took Kayla just under 6 minutes to score her 2nd goal of the night. The AR called a trip in the box, against Mariemont.  Kayla took the penalty kick and sent it high and down the middle of the net for the score.  Wyoming was up 2 - 0.

With 10:12 remaining in the game, Mariemont scored, taking it to 2 - 1.  With 6:32 remaining in the game, Casey Jervier made a BEAUTIFUL pass to Kayla for the 3rd and final Wyoming Goal!  Kayla earned a hat-trick and Wyoming took home a 3 - 1 win!

The Cowboys are on the road this week:
JV and Varsity play at Seven Hills on Tuesday 9/30, 5pm and 7pm.
On Wednesday 10/1, JV travels to Fairfield for a 4:30pm game and Varsity travels to Deer Park for a 7pm game.  Please note, this is an updated start time for the Deer Park game.  Please come cheer on your Cowboys as they look to another successful road trip.

Cowboys Conclude Convincingly at Coaches Classic

Coach Hoppenjans reported for the Girls JV Tennis team

The JV Girls Tennis Team finished the season with a spectacular showing at the Coaches Classic!  Every girl fought hard, and, as a result, Wyoming Cowboys were the Runner-up in the Tournament.  First Doubles, Marika Shoger and Sadie Darwish took first place in their division.  Second doubles, Emma Jacquamin and Isabella Getgey took second place in their division.  Sarah Sheerajin fought hard to be the winner in the back-draw for Third Singles.  Sydney Barth had 4 hard fought matches in Second Singles division and earned the team many points toward our final score.  Great finish to a great season!

Post Season Pursuit

From Coach Crider

The WHS Boys Varsity Golf team advanced through the first round of the post season on Wednesday with a solid second place showing at the Division II Sectional Tournament at Sharon Woods Golf Course.  The team finished 2nd to McNicholas by a razor thin 1 shot margin 317 – 318.  On the flip side, the Cowboys were tied after regulation play with rival Madeira, and were awarded 2nd place by virtue of a tiebreaker formula that brought in the 5th score.

Leading the Cowboys were Junior Sam Marty (75), Sophomore Cooper Hausfeld (78), Senior Johnny Hughes (80), Junior Brendan Madden (85) and Sophomore Jack “Tiebreaker” Fischer (88).  The team advances to the Division II District Tournament next Thursday 10/2 at Weatherwax Golf Course in Middletown.  The Cowboys will be playing for the chance to play for both individual and team state titles in Columbus the following week.

PR Propensity

From Coach Nocks,

The Middle School Cross Country team competed at the Winton Woods Invitational on Sept 18th.  Up to this point in the season the girls have had the bragging rights in the trophy race but the boys have evened things up with the 7th grade boys placing second against a large field and very challenging course.  You know it must be challenging when they give names to the hills.  The athletes ran on Mt. Kilaman and Oneheckuva Hill.

The Middle School Cross Country team then competed at Hopewell Invitational on Sept 23. The team finished in the middle of the pack which considering we were competing against huge schools like Mason, Nagel and Sycamore is not bad.  There is one significant accomplishment or many depending on how you look at it and that is every single runner that ran yesterday got a PR.

Cowboys Wrangle the Warriors

Jen Hays reported for the Boys Varsity Soccer team

The Wyoming Men's Varsity soccer team played Mariemont for a very important league game on Tuesday night.  All the guys played a fantastic game against a challenging Mariemont team, but this fan needs to give a special shout out to Tristan Kovach.  The first goal was scored by Andrew Derge off a stellar cross by Tristan.  Although an assist is something to be very proud of, I guess Tristan wanted more glory. So he decided to actually score the second goal, taking advantage of another beautiful cross, this time by Jay Klein.  Final score Wyoming over Mariemont 2-0

Once again we had such a great turn out for this game! It was great! Thanks to everyone who came out.  Keep on coming!  The guys are inching closer and closer to a CHL division win.  The support is great to see!

Guys next game is Saturday, Sept. 27th at home vs. Northwest.  JV plays at 1pm.  Varsity plays at 3pm.
And from Coach Thomas,
Congratulations to the Varsity Team on a great win. And what a great crowd we had ! Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the team. I had fun just listening to the student section!

If we beat Deer Park next Tuesday we are assured of at least a Co-Championship in the CHL. How cool is that! So please make sure that you invite everyone you know to come out that night and cheer us on to victory!

Thanks to Jen Hays for the report, and
Thanks to Deb Varland for the great pictures.

Soccer Spirit

Tracy Payne catches us up on the Boys JV Soccer team.

vs Indian Hill, from 9/16 away
A BIG Match: Indian Hill scored the first goal early in the first half.  At half time it was still 1-0.  Wyoming played hard! Both goalies did a good job!  Second half -  Indian Hill scored again early in the half.  Third goal at 11 minutes left in the game. Ending the game with a 3-0 defeat.

vs Mariemont, from 9/23 home
Mariemont scored early in the first half.  Not much later freshman, Yima Nyamor scored our first goal for Wyoming from the far right of the box into the top left corner of the net. The game really picked up before the half. Freshman, Isaiah Hornsby made a screamer of a goal from 40+ yards in the last 38 seconds of the first half. Wyoming now, up 2-1!!!
Second half - Mariemont was taken down in the box and awarded a PK which was converted. Now 2-2, the game was on! Both keepers, senior, Tim Fitch and freshman, Cole Engel did a tremendous job and made many great saves. Mariemont's offense was increasely hard to hold back and resulted in a 3rd goal. Ending the game in a 3-2 defeat.
Better luck next time, Cowboys!!!
Thanks to Tracy Payne for the report, and

Thanks to Scott Payne for the great photos.
