The girls tennis team continued their winning streak yesterday in the state team tourney. This is the first ever in the history of Wyoming girls tennis that Wyoming is in the final eight of the state. We beat Oakwood (from Dayton) 3 matches to 2. They previously beat us earlier this season 4-1 in very close matches.
Winning matches yesterday were Olivia Hennessy (6-2, 7-5) at third singles and then Abby and Sarah Gibbons (6-4, 6-2) in second doubles. The final victory was from Tess Thoresen who pulled out all the stops in a second singles match that lasted over three hours. She won 6-2, 3-6 and came back from 2-5 to go into a tiebreaker 7-2 to win the third set 7-6. It was fortunate that we have lighted courts because we needed them. Ashley Berg played at first singles and her scores were 1-6, 6-2, 2-6. The score for Madison Bourbon and Meredith Hennessy at first doubles was 2-6, 1-6.
Wyoming advances to the top eight of the division II state team tourney and next we play at Indian Hill next Wednesday the 14th. Separately, the girls will play in the sectionals on Thur 10/7 at Mason Middle School at 8 AM with the semi finals and finals scheduled for Sat same location at 9 AM.
