Football team goes to 9-0

The football team ran its record to 9-0 last night with a 55-0 dismantling of Taylor.

In the process Kyle Seyfried set a Wyoming HS record with six touchdown passes, breaking the record of 5 set by Eric Baker in 2003.  More amazingly to me, Kyle now has 32 TD passes on the season vs. 2 interceptions.  That's a crazy ratio that would put a smile on any QB's face.

The Cowboy dominance is reflected in the fact that total yardage was 452-63.  And in our punting stats for the night: (none found).

You have to hand it to the Taylor coaching staff.  They knew they were up against a juggernaut so they tried some trickeration to see if they couldn't catch a break and maybe build some momentum.  The first effort worked, when they recovered their opening kickoff onside kick.  Their ensuing drive, however, lost four yards.  We then drove down to their 25 before turning the ball over on downs.  After picking up two first downs, Taylor lined up to punt from their own 40, but run a fake punt instead.  Four yard loss, Wyoming ball on Taylor's 36.  Ball game - on our next nine possessions, we scored 8 touchdowns and turned the ball over on downs once at Taylor's 30.

Scoring those eight touchdowns for the Cowboys were Evan Alshire

Harry Meisner

Drew Perry

Jonathan Tighe

Justin Slivken (the 7th Cowboy to whom Kyle has thrown a TD pass)

and DJ Wilkinson.

Besides just shutting down Taylor's offense, the defense forced two turnovers: an interception by Adam Chalmers and a fumble recovery by Orlandus Chalk (he had all that leftover energy from not punting).

Finally, the special teams also played well, once they got past that opening onside kick.  We averaged 21.6 yards per punt return, including a 53 yard return by Max Kadish which he almost broke and a 35 yard return by Jonathan Tighe that he almost broke.  Taylor's punting average was 36.6 so they netted on average just 15 yards per punt.

Next up: BIG match-up next week at home at 7:30 PM vs. Indian Hill - A week ago Indian Hill set a CHL record with its 38th consecutive conference victory, which they extended to 39 last night vs. Finneytown.  So next week they try to extend their streak into next season and the Cowboys try to complete an undefeated regular season and assure a playoff  birth.  Should be a heck of a game - don't miss it.
