Ultimate Wrap-Up

From Coach White

The Wyoming Ultimate Frisbee Club, known as the Jackrabbits, concluded its first year as an official school club with a successful run at the year-end B division tournament.  Seeded 10th of 16 teams going in, the Jackrabbits knocked off #1 seed Springboro 10-7 in the first game on its way to a 6th place finish.  The Jackrabbits went 2-1 in pool play to enter the championship bracket, but then came up just short against St. X/Ursuline, 8-10, before beating Clark Montesorri 9-4 to claim 6th place.

Senior Alex Kellner led the way, as he did all season, with 20 scoring catches in five games, and fellow senior Sam White had six scoring throws and one goal catch.  Sophomores Joe White (10 scoring throws and five goal catches) and Jaden Shapiro (13 scoring throws and 2 goal catches) provided strong support, particularly in the fifth game of the day when their older teammates started to tire.  Freshman Annmarie Spurling caught six goals.  Seniors Zach Lower, Gus Volan, David Thoms, Benny Friedman and Chloe Halsted each threw and/or caught goals in their final games for the Jackrabbits.

The Reserve team also had a good day going 2-1 to capture second place in the four-team C-division tournament.

Year-end awards were given to Joe White and junior Blake Wickstrom as Most improved, and to Catherine Thoms and Annmarie Spurling for Best Spirit.

The Jackrabbits will lose seven seniors to graduation, including five-year players David Thoms and Sam White, and four-year players Alex Kellner and Benny Friedman, but will return more than 25 active players from this year’s roster for the 2015 season.
