This past week was a big one for the Cowboys Varsity Tennis Team.
This year’s tennis team is very experienced - every varsity team member is a returning player - and they used that experience to prepare and motivate for their match against CHL rival Indian Hill (May 2nd). Playing singles were Bourbon, Carter, and Montgomery. Playing doubles were Murray, Plattenburg, Smucker, and Thomas.
And… the Cowboys earned a big, BIG victory versus Indian Hill, by a score of 3-2 (and the match was every bit as exciting as the score would suggest). Every year, Indian Hill has a very strong tennis team, and this was the first time that Wyoming beat IH since 2009 (when, not coincidentally, there was another Bourbon and another Plattenburg on the team). The victory was especially sweet as the team celebrated seniors Michael Montgomery and Nik Plattenburg after the match with pizza and cake. This brings the record for the Cowboys to a league-leading 8-3 (3-0 CHL).
There is still a lot of tennis left to the season. This upcoming week, the varsity tennis team plays matches versus Princeton on 5/5 (Home – come cheer!), Taylor on 5/6 (Home – come cheer!), Lakota West on 5/7 (Away), and Mariemont on 5/9 (Away).
A team picture is attached (and all smiles after the win!)
Thanks to Bob Carter for the report and picture.
