Jane's eye did not pop out at second base!

Jane Streeter was hit in the eye with a softball on Saturday and was hurt quite seriously.  I sent a note to the Streeters, asking if they were comfortable sending me an update that I could post to the blog.  Her mother, Claudia, sent the following response:

We have a wonderful community. So many people have reached out (including several people in the medical field).

We know that Jane has fractures in 3 different places around her eye—the thin floor bone below the eyeball, the bottom part of her orbital bone, and her nose. She’ll have surgery to repair these once the swelling and bleeding in and around the eye are reduced. Most importantly, they think that there has not been any permanent damage to her eye. We are waiting for a 5 day window period to pass – after that time period it’s less likely that the eye will start bleeding again.

We are hoping that everything continues to go well so that she can be ready for the Air Force Academy on June 24. We have several more hurdles, and are so thankful for everyone’s thoughts and prayers to help us get through.

Jane is very sorry to end her high school sports career this way; it was hard for her not to be at the field against Madeira today. But in the big scheme of things, this all seems fixable and we are so fortunate that there wasn’t a brain injury. (Although Stan jokes about that.)

You are welcome to let people know things are looking up. (It would be good to squash the rumor that her eye popped out at second base!)
