Boys lacrosse downs Alter

From our boys lacrosse stringer:

Tonight’s game was played at the Wyoming Recreation Center due to a schedule conflict with the Wyoming A field at Lewis Stadium. Playing in the two to three inch high grass made for a different game than the Wyoming fans are used to but it certainly made for good ground ball action. Archbishop Alter traveled to Wyoming for the event. Both teams were well coached and the game officiated evenly. At the end of the first period Wyoming led three to one and by the end of the half both teams had doubled their first period scores for a six to two half-time score. In the third period Wyoming scored six goals to Alter's one and in the fourth period Wyoming scored another four goals with Alter adding one more goal for a final of Wyoming 16, Archbishop Alter 4.
Over the weekend the Wyoming Cowboys held a Captain’s practice on Saturday to shake out their sticks and focus on the Monday first game of the week. There are several Cowboys who are healing up from injuries to include Will Irwin and Matt Ames both of whom are recovering from high ankle sprains. Will is expected to see action either this week or the next with Matt following close behind. Both players are missed in the offensive and defensive line-up.

Goalie Michael Sagan #27, played an excellent game with nine goalie saves over twenty-five full field clears. Tonight the high ground balls controlled leader was David Zanoni #41, with nine balls controlled. In a game of possession the Cowboys cleaned the field of loose balls with John Colton #33, Tyler Cornelius #44, and Nick Kamphaus #15 controlling six loose ground balls a piece. In an example of selfless play, both Austin Hughes #1 and James Edwards #3 had three assists each. The leading goal scorer for the evening was Attackman Daniel Leish #5, who scored five goals and received several excellent passes to the side of the crease. Harry Meisner #49 and Austin Hughes each had three goals with Travis Courtney and Tyler Cornelius scoring two goals apiece.

Due to the schedule conflict the JV did not have a game tonight however the entire JV team dressed out tonight and contributed greatly to the Wyoming Cowboy’s win. On the field tonight Jack “Hammer” McCaslins # 13, scored a fourth period goal and was batting a thousand with one shot on goal/one goal made. Corbin Guggenheim #6, played at the midfield position tonight and also took several of the face-offs displaying confident face-off skills. Other JV players receiving significant game time and stats include Conner Hughes and Richie Irwin. Josh Sagan #45 also saw a lot of defensive/midfield playing time as he filled in for the injured Matt Ames #10.

Next up: home this Wednesday vs. Indian Hill - JV at 5, Varsity at 7
