The very young but very deep Wyoming Girls Varsity Tennis team pulled off an upset in the state team tournament. CHCA was previously one of the top 10 teams in the state. Saturday's win of Wyoming's 3 matches vs. CHCA's 2 matches is the first ever win for Wyoming vs. CHCA. Playing singles were Ashley Berg '13 at first court, Madison Bourbon '13 at second court and Tess Thoresen '12 at third. The singles were all played in straight sets. Tess won handily 6-0 6-0 to capture the first win of the afternoon for Wyoming.
The next win was Abby '12 and Sarah Gibbons '12 who went into a tie break for the first set win, then were down 4-1 in the second set and came back to capture the second match for the team.
With a split of 2 Wyoming wins vs. 2 CHCA wins, it was all up to the Hennessy sisters, Olivia '10 and Meredith '13. Their three hour battle included a tie break for both the first and second sets which they split with their opponents. Then, they fought hard and dominated the third set with a 6-0 finish. This clinched a victory for Wyoming to advance to the Sweet 16 for the State Team Tourney!!!
Next Up: an away match on Monday September 21 against Oakwood followed by matches vs. Mariemont on Tuesday and vs. Finneytown on Wednesday
