The Wyoming Girl's Cross Country team defeated thirteen other schools to capture the small school division of the Mason Invitational. The Cowboys were led by freshman Sammy Schwartz, who finished 6th in a time of 21:29 over the 3.1 mile course. Also placing in the top five for Wyoming and scoring for the Cowboys were sophomore Emily Stites, 10th in 21:54, freshman Amelia Irvine, 13th in 22:12, sophomore Olivia Schneider, 21st in 22:57, and sophomore Noel DeMott, 23rd in 23:08.
"The girl's team is very young, with only Emily Stites having previous varsity experience," said Head Coach Dan Flaute. "I am excited to see the improvement that the team showed at Mason. We have the potential to be a very good team by the CHL meet and the tournament races in October."
The Wyoming Boys Cross Country team was crippled by the influenza running through the high school, missing 4 of their top 5 runners, but rallied to finish 7th out of 14 teams in the small school division of the Mason Invitational. Sophomore Seth Gold led the charge for the Cowboys, finishing the race in 18:39. Also scoring for Wyoming was senior Evan Cheshire in 18:53, senior Rob Marty in 19:19, senior John Colton in 19:25, and sophomore Sam Rominger in 19:31.
"Obviously, we were missing some key people for this race," explained Flaute. "However, I thought the guys who ran did a good job of stepping up and filling in. Three of our top five ran their best time of the season."
