Football team beats Mariemont 31-3, goes to 5-0

Immediately prior to the game last night, Mariemont's PA announcer asked for everyone to observe a moment of silence to recognize the passing of Bob Lewis, a nice tribute, I thought, to someone associated with the visiting team.

The offense was a little sluggish coming out of the gate.  It went punt-fumble-punt on the first three possessions, including giving Mariemont the ball at our 21.

Luckily, the defense was lights out, and I mean LIGHTS OUT.  For example, when Mariemont had 21 yards to go for a touchdown after our turnover, they instead took four plays to go -2 yards.

We substituted freely on both sides of the ball in the fourth quarter, but check out these defensive statistics during the first three quarters.  Mariemont had the ball 10 times.  They gained a total of 31 yards and got 2 first downs.  And we turned them over three times with Adam Chalmers intercepting two passes and Tommy Campbell recovering a fumble.  Even when you take their QB's negative rushing yardage out, we held them to 1.4 yards per carry.

The offense came alive after its slow start, scoring on four of its next five possessions. Kyle Seyfried threw one TD pass to Evan Aleshire and two to Harry Meisner. A potential fourth ended up just short as Jonathan Tighe caught a pass and was only able to get down to the three yard line as the clock ran down to :01 left in the first half.  Coach Barre called for a field goal and Joe Panos converted the 20 yard attempt (and was four for four on PAT's).

The other scoring came on a scintilating 82 yard punt return by Max Kadish in the 2nd quarter.

Kyle ended up 16-28 for 187 yards and three touchdowns. That gives him 1,239 passing yards on the season. To put that in perspective, the QB who is 2nd in yardage in the CHL is Patrick McClanahan of Madeira, with 545 yards. The three leading receivers in the CHL are Evan Aleshire, Harry Meisner and Jonathan Tighe.
