Jeff King, WHS '07, wins awards at OU

Jeff King, WHS '07, is a redshirt sophomore defensive lineman for the Ohio University Bobcats. During summer conditioning Jeff won the Ben Kei challenge. This is a competition among all offensive and defensive linemen consisting of four events: 1) front squat, 2) pushing a wooden sled forty yards, 3) flipping a 600+ pound tire 20 yards then dragging a 240 pound chain 20 yards, and 4) running 50 yards, picking up a 55 pound plate and running it back and putting it on a sled, repeating this twice more and then dragging the sled 50 yards with the plates on it. Jeff finished with 35 points and the second place finisher had 27 points.

Jeff also earned the Super Iron Bobcat award. The Super Iron Bobcat award is the highest honor a Bobcat can win in the weightroom and is based on maxes in the bench press, squat, power clean and jerk. The lift requirements are based on a player's position so as a D lineman Jeff had to attain the highest levels - front squat at least 440 pounds, power clean at least 335 pounds and bench press at least 390 pounds.

As a redshirt freshman last year Jeff played in 5 games, recording 5 tackles and a half sack.

Jeff injured his knee in a preseason scrimmage but should be back for the second or third game of the season.
