The defense exults and Wyoming fans cheer them as they run off the field following Jacob Allsop's interception of a Reading pass to seal the victory last night. The football team won a hard fought come-from-behind victory at Reading's Veterans' Stadium 28-21.
After alternating scores in the first half, Reading took a 21-14 lead into the fourth quarter. After we turned the ball over on downs, sophomore Max Kadish intercepted a pass and returned it 12 yards to set up the offense at the Reading 23 yard line. Three plays later Kyle Seyfriend hit Harry Meisner with a 7 yard touchdown pass.
On Reading's third play from scrimmage following the kickoff, Jacob Allsop intercepted a pass, giving the offense the ball at midfield. The offense conducted a methodical 10 play drive (1 Meisner & 4 Seyfied rushes and Seyfried passes to Jonathan Tighe (2), Evan Aleshire (2) and Meisner) with Seyfried sneaking it over from the 1. On those two scoring drives, Kyle Seyfriend rushed 6 times for 37 yards and was 6-6 through the air for 42 yards.
Reading never quit. They drove down to our 29 before Allsop's interception.
Seyfried ended the game 24-27 for 200 yards with 2 TD passes and picked up 77 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in 15 attempts. His three incompletions were one fewer than the number of interceptions that Reading threw (Michael Travers picked them off in addition to the two by Allsop and one by Kadish). Six different recievers caught passes.
Joe Panos was also clutch, converting all four PAT's. The last scoring drive for the offense would have had a completely different feel if we were, say, down 21-20 instead of being tied 21-21.
Coach Hancock doesn't like not having the full week to prepare the game plan and get the kids ready. Or, as he put it as he pulled off his headset after the game, "I hate Thursday games."
Next up: at Mariemont next Friday at 7:30 (and Coach Hancock has an extra day to prepare)
