Varsity boys' lacrosse salutes Richard Beck, downs Lebanon

From our lacrosse stringer:
On three.... one, two, three "Beck". All of the Wyoming Cowboys lacrosse players wore either the initials R. B. or the number 32 tonight to honor the life of Richard Beck who was killed this past weekend in a car accident. Rich played goalie for the Cowboys last season and wore number 32. He will be missed.

The Cowboys came out focused and played with intensity throughout the entire game, winning over the Lebanon Warriors 16 to 5. In the first period Wyoming racked up six goals and Cowboy goalie Michael Sagan shut out the Warriors. In the second period the Cowboys scored three more goals and Lebanon answered with one goal giving a half time score of 9 to 1. The third period was the hardest fought with Wyoming scoring five goals to Lebanon's four. The last period of the game allowed the Cowboys to score two additional unanswered goals giving a final score of 16 to 5.

At the conclusion of the game, the Cowboys huddled with sticks raised high … one, two, three – “Beck”. Rest in peace Rich.

The Cowboys kept the balls up off the ground accumulating a total of fifty-one loose balls controlled during the course of the game. Defensemen Matt Fisher, John Colton, and Tommy Campbell contributed to a large majority of the ground balls, with middies Harry Meisner, Travis Courtney, Tyler Cornelius, and Nick Kamphaus sweeping up what was left over. Attackmen Austin Hughes scored seven goals to lead the Cowboys victory with the two Tyler's (Cornelius and Hughes) scoring three goals each. David Zanoni started at attack for Daniel Leish who was under the weather and scored two goals and had one assist. Harry Meisner led the team in assists and also scored a goal.

While it was a little overcast the night was perfect for lacrosse. This week starts the playoff games for the Cowboys. This Thursday evening Wyoming will host Miami Valley at Lewis Stadium. The game starts at 6:30 PM. Also scheduled is a game against Turpin at Turpin on Saturday at 3:00 PM. This team has had an outstanding season ... come out and cheer on the Cowboys in the playoffs.
