Spring Athletic Awards - Special Awards

Congratulations to the following athletes (and one old guy) for receiving these special awards at the Spring Sports Awards ceremony held at Pendery Center on May 25th.

Scholar Athletic Award - Given by the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) to the highest ranking GPA athletes with at least four varsity letters.

Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award - Given by the OHSAA to the male and female athlete that exemplify sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity.

Ohio High School Athletic Association State Award - Given by the OHSAA to someone involved in the athletic program that has gone above and beyond for the high school athletic department.
Tom Horn (aforementioned old guy)

Gene Pitman Scholarship Award  - Awarded by the Wyoming Boosters to recognize a senior girl and a senior boy who have demonstrated continuous athletic excellence coupled with scholastic performance.  Criteria include 1) participation in more than one sport for two full years; outstanding excellence in one sport for two full years, 2) an academic average of at least 3.0 GPA (7 semester cumulative), and 3) display of character and leadership.

Ed Ridenour Scholarship Award - Awarded by the Wyoming Boosters to recognize a senior girl and a senior boy who have demonstrated continuous athletic excellence, leadership, and sportsmanship. Criteria include 1) participation in more than one sport for two full years; outstanding excellence in one sport for two full years, 2) display of leadership and sportsmanship.

Jamie Patrice Award - Given by the Patrice family on behalf of Jamie Patrice, former athlete at Wyoming that was tragically killed in an automobile accident.

Mike Ames Award of Character Athletic Scholarship - Given by Mike’s parents, Kathy Ames Ooten and David Ooten, and chosen by coaches and key high school personnel; this $1,000 scholarship is awarded to one senior each year. The recipient is a senior varsity athlete that has demonstrated his/her appreciation of students with any type of difference or disability by going above and beyond to include them in any aspect of high school life, including the classroom, on the athletic field or in the community.

Courageous Student/Athlete Award - Given by the OHSAA to one student that has exemplified extreme courage during his/her high school athletic career.
Brooke Smith

Fred S. Dewey Award - Given to the outstanding senior male and female athlete who best exemplify athleticism, dedication, leadership, character and scholarship. This award is voted on by the coaching staff at the high school.
