Boys' lacrosse season ends, part II

A game and season wrap-up from our lacrosse stringer:
The number of goals scored in the Wyoming verses Turpin second round playoff game showing up in the stat book came up in pairs of three, two, one. James Edwards and Austin Hughes had three goals apiece. Daniel Liesh and Harry Meisner had two goals apiece. The final pair was Travis Courtney and David Zanoni with one goal apiece. To add to his great effort and top scoring in the game, James Edwards demonstrated unselfish senior leadership with four assists while also racking up five loose balls controlled. Other assists in the game came from Tyler Hughes, Austin Hughes, and Will Irwin. Tyler Cornelius handled the majority of the face-offs for the Cowboys, winning twelve possessions throughout the game. Cornelius also had the highest ground balls controlled with nine. Adding to the ability to keep the ball off the ground and in the possession of the Cowboys, Senior John Colton had seven grounds balls and led the defensive team as Michael Sagan made twelve goalie saves during the game. While the outcome of the game was not desirable for the Cowboys, it was nevertheless a great game. Best of luck to the Turpin Spartans in the rest of the playoffs.

Wyoming Boys Lacrosse Coaches Keith Hughes and Barry Porter are going to miss the graduating seniors next year. James Edwards #3, Matt Fisher #16, Tyler Hughes #22, John Colton #33, Harry Meisner #49, Daniel Leish #5, Matt Ames #10, Nik Tamanko #25, Will Irwin #23, and Josh Benner Team Manager have added great value to the team and provided excellent leadership throughout this season.

A Great Season:

The Wyoming High School Boys Lacrosse season ended Saturday with eight wins and six losses in the regular season. The Team made it to the second round playoff game where they lost in the first period of overtime. Coaches Keith Hughes and Barry Porter were proud of the growth of the team over the season and are looking forward to next season. The Cowboys have several returning players with great stick skills and have matured throughout this season as well as a bunch of players coming up to the High School level next season. As one of the fastest growing sports in America, Lacrosse has taken hold in the Wyoming Community at all ages for boys and girls. Just last weekend Wyoming hosted a game against Springboro at Lewis Stadium for second graders! It was awesome to see so many young players picking up a stick and being coached by knowledgeable and dedicated coaches. For boys and girls interested in playing the game of lacrosse during the off-season, there are numerous opportunities to play at the club level and indoor leagues in the summer, fall, and winter months.
As a recap of the Wyoming High School Boys Lacrosse season, sixteen games were played including the playoff games for a record of nine wins and seven losses. Goalie Michael Sagan had a total of one-hundred and forty-four goalie saves in fourteen games as the Cowboys goalie. The three starting attackmen Austin Hughes, Tyler Hughes, and Daniel Leish had the highest goals scored with an impressive fifty-two, thirty-seven, and thirty-one respectively. Mid-fielder Tyler Cornelius scored twenty-three goals in the season. James Edwards and Austin Hughes led the team in assists with twenty-three apiece. Daniel Leish had sixteen assists with Harry Meisner and Tyler Hughes having fifteen assists apiece. For the loose balls controlled or ground balls Tyler Cornelius had sixty-nine with Harry Meisner and Nick Kamphaus racking up sixty-one ground balls apiece. Defenseman (long pole) John Colton led the defensive end with fifty-eight loose balls controlled.  For for face-offs - Tyler Cornelius had 72, Nick Kamphaus 44, and Corbin Guggenheim 23.
As a whole on the season the Cowboys had one hundred and ninety-nine goals, one hundred and thirty-four assists, six hundred and eighteen loose balls controlled, and one hundred and seventy goalie saves. Great season Cowboys, looking forward to next year.
