From Coach Crawford
The Wyoming Girl's HS Lax team traveled east crossing a few railroad tracks and up the hill to play the Mt. Notre Dame Cougars on Saturday afternoon. Both JV and Varsity squads came up short in their respective games but each saw spirited play and battled to game's end. JV Goalie Avery Barzizza recorded 5 saves in the Cowboys 5 to 8 loss. Goals were scored by Caroline Abel (2), Ashley Moher (1), Madelyn Taylor (1), and Annie Boster (1).
The Varsity squad initially stunned the Division 1, currently ranked 6th in State, Cougars to patiently build a 3 to 1 lead with 12:20 remaining in the first half. Then MND went to work and scored 8 unanswered goals. Down 3 to 9 at half, the Cowboys made adjustments and summoned their Cowboy pride to muster up 5 additional goals in the second half with Goalie Claire Mellott making key saves behind a steeled Cowboy defense. But in the end, the Cowboys fell short losing 8 to 13. Cowboy scoring was lead by Maggie Hughes and Adi Smith with 3 goals each, followed Reilly Simmons (1) and Haley Stewart (1). Marielle Smith lead all players with 4 Assists while Grace Schneider lead all players with an impressive 5 Draw Controls from her defensive position. The squad moves to 9 wins and 5 loses with one week remaining in the regular season.
Next up, Varsity-only games on Tuesday with Milford at home, game time at 6pm and Thursday (Senior Night) with Beavercreek, game time at 7pm. The JV closes their season with Dayton Club next Saturday.
