Ultimate CHAMPIONS

Coach George White had good news - scratch that - GREAT news from the Ultimate Frisbee Championship Tournament on Saturday, May 4th.

Wyoming capped an undefeated season by beating previously undefeated Mason 12-10 in overtime in a thrilling tournament final to win the championship. Wyoming won six consecutive games in the 16-team tournament on Saturday to win the tournament, beating Moeller/Mt. Notre Dame, Milford, Oak Hills, Lebanon, and Walnut Hills prior to defeating Mason.
The Jackrabbits, as Wyoming's team is known, received solid contributions from all 20 students on the roster, and were led all day by seniors Eric Reichwein, David Weinrich, and Khafra Flynn. Senior Shaun Wilson-Woodrow fired up the team with his inspired play accounting for four goals in the semi-finals against Walnut Hills, when the Jackrabbits recovered from an early 3-1 deficit and trailed 6-5 at halftime, before reeling off six straight points to win 11-6. Senior Katie Scholles also turned in a strong performance on the offensive and defensive ends.
In the final, the Jackrabbits trailed 3-0 early, but behind the strong defense and offensive throwing skills of Reichwein, Weinrich and junior Sam White, great pressure zone D, and the emotional leadership and play of senior Ethan Padnos, came back to knot the game at 10, taking the game into overtime. Flynn then scored the final two goals, the last set up by an interception by freshman Joe White and a short scoring pass from fellow senior Weinrich. Scoring leaders for Wyoming in the final: Flynn (four scoring catches and one scoring throw), Joe White (one and four), Reichwein (one and two), Weinrich (one and two), and junior Chloe Halsted (two catches).

The tournament championship is Wyoming's first since 1999, and wraps up a successful Ultimate career for the 13 seniors on the varsity, most of whom joined the club as sophomores and led a resurrection of the program. While the Jackrabbits will miss all 13 seniors, they will return eight varsity players next season, when the team will also elevate many players from this year's 25-player reserve roster.

Thanks to Coach White for the report and providing the picture of our Champions.
