Success in State Play-Off

Coach Crawford sent some exciting news.

The Girls HS Lacrosse team won their first ever State Playoff game in an exciting first round match-up against Columbus Bishop Hartley, final score 11-8. The first half was a battle with Wyoming falling behind 0-2 after 8 minutes of play. An unanswered run of four goals saw the Cowboys go up 4-2. This lead dwindled and again Wyoming fell behind 4-5, before pulling even at 5 before the half. Bishop Hartley came out determined in the second half scoring 3 unanswered goals and taking the lead 5-8, but with about 9 minutes remaining in the game, the Cowboys pulled it together through the efforts of Co-Captains MJ Fischer and Carly Levick and started a scoring run which lead to an 8 to 8 tie with 3 minutes 55 seconds remaining in the game. 20 seconds later, the Cowboys were quick on the draw and scored their ninth goal as then two more goals came in quick succession to pull away with the 11 to 8 win.

Freshman Goalie Clare Mellott recorded 9 saves, with many key saves in the second half. Scoring was lead by Adi Smith with 4 goals, as Claire Crawford had 3 goals, and MJ Fischer and Marta Stewart had 2 goals each. Assists were lead by Maggie Hughes and Claire Crawford with 2 each while Adi Smith and freshman Haley Stewart each had 1. Other notables in this team effort were Carly Levick with an incredible 9 draw controls and loose ball controls lead by Grace Crawford with 4 followed by Marta Stewart with 3.

Next up, round two at Indian Hill HS on Thursday, May 16, gametime 7 pm.

I have several selections of pictures to go with this game.  Stay tuned and look for them to be posted tomorrow.
