CHL Sweep

From CHL Girls and Boys Coach of the Year, Travis Glendenning and the Run Wyoming blog

We had an incredible day of racing at Sharon Woods (Saturday, October 11) as our runners swept all 4 CHL races!

The JV girls started the morning off by taking 4 of the top 5 places, led by individual winner Katherine Irvine's season best 21:59, on their way to a winning score of 16.  The JV boys fell behind Mariemont early, but seized control in miles 2 and 3 to post a winning score of 24, beating the Warriors by 9 points.  Thomas Harmon won the race in 18:34, and our top 9 JV boys all finished under 20:00.
The Varsity girls race featured 6 teams in the top 10 of the Cincinnati Enquirer DII/III Coaches Poll.  Our team combined for their strongest performance of the season, scoring 36 and easily outdistancing 2nd-place Madeira's 73.  Katie Spray finished second with a career-best time of 20:21, and Whitley Elsass and Terra Forsythe followed close behind in 3rd and 5th.  All 3 earned 1st-Team All-CHL honors.  Danielle McKee received 2nd-Team All-League for her 8th place performance.  Emily Wood (who set a new PR by over 100 seconds!), Lily Parker, and Isabella Renggli all finished in front of the 5th scorer of every other team.  4 Wyoming girls ran under 21 minutes at the CHL Championship for the first time since the league meet moved to Sharon Woods.  Also, Katie and Whitley again moved up the individual all-time WHS Top 20 list.  Check out the record page as 3 current runners now hold times among the 15 best.
Our "Men of Autumn" finished off the day with a commanding victory, posting a 34 well ahead of Taylor's 81.  This is the third consecutive CHL title for the boys.  Senior Ben Stites won his 2nd individual championship, earning CHL Runner of the Year honors, with a meet and course record 16:25.  Max Hoffman tied the previous course record of 16:33, finishing second. He continues his climb up the WHS rankings, moving into 5th.  Tanner Anthony and Cullen O'Brien posted season bests and both received 2nd-Team CHL medals.  Evan Cramer rounded out the scoring, finishing 1 spot off the All-CHL team as he set a PR of 17:24, and Jonah Engelhardt and Adam Frankel were our 6 and 7 runners.  The boys ran an all-time CHL best scoring average of 17:01.
Congratulations to everyone on a tremendous day that featured more than 30 season-best performances!
