The boys' lacrosse team won its first round tournament game last night at Bob Lewis Stadium - a 13-12 thriller over Kings.
I'm working off of memory (#notwhatitusedtobe) for these scores, so they're at least directionally correct. At halftime the score was 7-4, but Kings had really controlled play. It was one of those games where you look at the scoreboard and think, "Wow - that's not as bad as it feels. We could come back from that."
Well, by the end of the third quarter we trailed just 10-9. We finally tied the score at 10 with 10:58 remaining. Then Kings went up 11-10. We tied the scored at 11-11 with 8:23 to go.
Kings again went up, 12-11. We tied the score at 12-12 with just 1:33 to go. (I know, scary right?, and you already know we win.) With just 26 seconds on the clock, Travis Courtney scored to put us ahead 13-12.
Then in one of those changed perspective situations, 26 seconds, which seemed like no time when we had the ball and needed to score to win in regulation, seemed like forever as Kings won the faceoff and took possession. The defense did its job though, didn't allow a shot, and victory was ours.
Austin Hughes led the scoring with three goals and two assists. Travis and James McAllister also had three goals. They each also had an assist. Griffin O'Gara had two goals and an assist. Dominic Vamosi had two goals. David Moody and Sam Meyers added one assist each.
LBC Leaders were Austin with nine, Harrison Wood with six, and Travis and John Hughes with five each.
Frank Barzizza had eight saves in goal.
Next up: at Indian Hill Wednesday at 7:30. Indian Hill beat Fenwick last night 16-3.
