Wyoming's girls tennis doubles team place 3rd out of 32 teams at Sectionals

From our tennis stringer:

On Saturday, Ashley Berg (soph) and Tess Thoresen (jr) battled for 5 hours on the tennis court in the sectional semifinals. They lost to CHCA’s Dominique Baxter (jr) and Kassie Faugno (sr) 6-2, 3-6, 3-6 in a 2 hour long match. They breaked for 30 minutes and then hit the courts again to play for 3rd place. Their second match of the day was against the Indian Hill sisters, Taylor Schumacher (sr) and Kasey Schumacher (jr), and the scores were 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. It lasted another 2 ½ hours.
Recall that during the regular tennis season, Ashley and Tess played singles on first court and second court, respectively. Therefore, you may wonder why these two are paired up for doubles. It’s because while they are talented and solid singles players, they make a better competitive doubles team in the quest to make it to STATE!
They are two extremely versatile and talented players who possess the right combination of athletic strengths and mental focus. They complement each other well and are a force on the doubles court to be reckoned with! They were the youngest and least experienced pair at the sectional semifinals.
Last year, the duo made it all the way to State due to hard work, a crash course in doubles play, and the luck of a great tournament draw. Now, this year, they come into the tournament a much more mature and experienced doubles team. Their year round training and dedication in the off-season should pay off.
We look forward to Districts which will be held on Thursday and Saturday. Good luck to Ashley and Tess! Play well!
