Boys' soccer loses to McNick

The boys' soccer team lost a heartbreaker to McNicholas last night at Madeira.

McNick came in as the #1 seed in the bracket (we were #2).

They dominated play early and had at least five corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of the game, putting in the last to go up 1-0.

Wyoming came to life after that and the teams played pretty evenly the rest of the way.

Aaron Linn put in a long direct kick to even the score late in the first half.

The second half was scoreless.

The first 15 minute sudden death overtime was scoreless.

The second 15 minutes sudden death overtime was scoreless.

Thus the game came down to penalty kicks.  We missed one.  McNick made all of theirs.

The boys played very well.  As I said, McNick came out strong and had us on our heels, but we came back and the game could have gone either way.

This is the third straight tournament exit by PK for us, as both the boys' and girls' teams went out that way last year.

Coach Steve Thomas said:
I am so proud of every Varsity and JV player who wore the Wyoming uniform this season. You represented your teams, your school, your parents and the community with class and I appreciate you all very much!

Yes, I am sad that the season is over but what a great season for both teams.

I believe that we are blessed to have some of the best coaches in the city. Thank you Coach Hartke, Coach Fitzpatrick and Coach Panos for your commitment to the soccer program and for the countless hours of preparation you put in this season.
The team ended the season 13-6 and tied for 1st in the Enquirer Coaches' Poll.
