Football beats Finneytown to go to 7-1 (full post)

The football team beat Finneytown Friday night 55-20.  The quick way to describe this game is that we scored touchdowns on seven of our first eight possessions.

The game started right off with drama.  After we kicked off to Finneytown, the defense backed them up 7 yards in 3 plays.  We fumbled the ensuing punt, but on the next play, Chris Campbell intercepted a pass and returned the ball 30 yards, but with a 17 yard penalty we finally took an offensive snap at our 23.

One Drew Perry 4-yard run was sandwiched between two Kyle Seyfried to Jonathan Tighe passes and we were in the end zone.  So apparently Kyle was able to shake off the rust of a six game absence due to a foot injury - on his first drive back he was two for two for 73 yards and a TD.

Finneytown then showed some life on the offensive side, picking up three first downs and getting the ball nearly to mid-field.  But then Chris Campbell picked off his second pass of the first quarter and we had the ball just on our side of mid-field.

The teams then traded punts and we took over at our 49.  It took just six plays (including two incomplete passes) for the team to march the 51 yards to paydirt: Kyle to Max Kadish for 11, Kyle to Jonathan for 21, Drew for 12 and then Max ran it in from the seven.

Our first possession of the 2nd quarter made that last one look like we were lollygagging.  We took over at our 39.  Kyle threw a 61 yard TD pass to Phillip Schuholz.  Cowboys 21-0.

On the third play of Finneytown's next possession, Max Kadish intercepted a pass and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown.  28-0.

After allowing Finneytown one first down, we took over again, this time at our 28.  In this 72 yard drive, Drew Perry had runs of 5, 9 and 19 and Kyle completions of 18 yards to Chris Dolle, 27 yards to Robert Gomez, and finally of 12 to Max for his third TD of the half.  34-0.

Finneytown did come back and score a TD on the last possession of the first half to make the halftime score 34-7.

At halftime, the fall sports and band seniors were recognized.

We really put things away when we scored on our first three possessions of the second half: on an Antwoine O'Neal 50 yard run, an Antwoine 17 yard run and a 29 yard Robert Gomez to Chris Dolle pass.

Peter Levick
In total we outgained the Wildcats 510 yards to 273.  Kyle was 10 for 17 for 245 yards and three TD's in his return from the DL.  Antwoine O'Neal led the rushers with 107 yards on just 6 attempts.  All ball carriers averaged a collective 8.4 yards per carry, a sign of a dominant offensive line.

The only negative I could find was that we were penalized 8 times for 99 yards.  (But don't worry - the coaches will find plenty of negatives in the film.)
